Why can they broadcast the Women’s Open without interruption, and the Men’s with constant interruption?

I like the yellow ball in the winter, or a cloudy day. As I get older, the eyes are not getting any better, so might switch to yellow full time.

Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography… by Alan Shipnuck

I told my wife yesterday that all the goodwill that Phil built up over a 30+ year career went away in a matter of days. -
Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography… by Alan Shipnuck
Sandy Divot replied to iacas's topic in Reading Room
I borrowed the e book from the library, and, so far not very impressed. Phil just seems like a human. Some good, and some not so good. The writing is average at best. -
I traded a Sun Mountain Speed Cart based on reviews of Clicgear. I really think my golf bag sat better on the SM, and the straps on the SM were plenty long enough. I have had to buy the bag cozy for the CG, and I would buy longer straps if they were available. I will say the CG is a bit more substantial, but overall, I prefer the SM. Just my opinion.

Fit and finish is not acceptable for such an expensive putter. I’d return it.

Isn’t Phoenix played at a TPC course? If so, I believe TPC courses are owned by the PGA tour, so I doubt LIV could play at the same course the Tour currently uses.

I wish I could swing with the tempo, balance and power of Minjee Lee. Not much drama in the last round, but it sure was fun to watch her play.

The course looked very generous off the tee, but those greens did look tough. Being on the correct part of the green was not only important for scoring, but it also determined if the ball would stay on the green. We saw several times when an approach shot was a couple yards away from being a very good shot and it ended up in a bunker, chipping area,or native area. There is no rough around the greens, so the ball can roll pretty far from the green.

Went today, and had a great time. The course really looked good. Smaller crowds than a men’s open, and not a single get in the hole, mashed potatoes or Babba booey. Really a great atmosphere.

My father was president of the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association, and was working a U S Amateur qualifier. The USGA official put a hole on , what my father described as, “the peak of a volcano”. There were numerous 4 and 5 putts. A player that played in several Walker Cups had to be physically restrained from going after the USGA official. The official said it was fair since everyone had to play it. My father told him that making it wrong for everyone did not make it fair. This particular USGA official never set up another course in the DC area.

Contrived/Manipulated Fittings?
Sandy Divot replied to Double Mocha Man's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It could be either. Was the rep watching you hit, or just watching the Trackman? If so, I would think the machine was wrong. It’s also possible he thought he could get an easy sale by giving you bad data. I’m old, and my eyes are not as good as they used to be, but I sure wouldn’t need a machine to tell me I was hitting one club 40 yards longer. -
See if you can take advantage of a fitting at a demo day. It’s usually a fairly basic fitting, and it’s usually free. It should give you an idea of length, lie angle, and shaft flex. It would give you a good place to start from rather than just buying blind. It might also be a good place to compare graphite vs steel, and also compare game improvement vs blades, or super game improvement. You might have enough info to compare your results vs specs from another manufacturer.

I heard Caledonia is having some trouble with a few greens. Supposedly, they are getting better, but you might want to check before you go. Also, a lot of courses punch bermuda greens early to mid June, so you need to check on that, too.

I play with a group of retired guys a couple times per week. We usually have 4 tee times Tuesday and Thursday. The guy that organizes has two rules: No one cares why you hit a bad shot, and no excessive displays of temper. I have never had a single issue with anybody. We have one guy that is slow, so they put him in the last group, and he’s fun to play with, regardless. I don’t play much on the weekends, but I do practice, and I see carts full of empty beer cans, with speakers attached to the cart. I feel very fortunate that I really haven’t experienced the behavior you have. The exception would be the trees as bathrooms, and sometimes, as you get older, if you have to go, you have to go.

I traded a Sun Mountain Speed Cart in on a 4.0. I wish I had kept the SM. It’s easier to fold , the bag sits better, and I think it’s a bit easier to push. I’m not too crazy about the rubber straps on the 4.0. I liked the bungees on the SM better.

How Long Stuff Lasts on a Golf Course
Sandy Divot replied to saevel25's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Our course was built in 1954, and we are still using the original greens. They are considering converting to Bermuda, but there is no timetable. -
Early as possible. I’m an early riser, so I like to get going early.
-
Did they get to keep all the Prov1s, too?
-
Not too many, but in my experience, the guys that talk the most are the ones you have to worry about the least.
-
As long as he’s not telling your ball to go into the lake or woods, I wouldn’t care.

Sun Mountain, ClicGear, Bag Boy all make good carts. A guy I play with has one from Costco, I don’t remember the brand, and it seems to be be good, too.
