Footjoy's alltogether are great... I have owned 3 pair in 5 years, they have all been winners! Whatever you do, buy the shoes, throw away the inserts and go get some that you can mold to your feet... like these... http://www.rei.com/product/752606 . I put these in my shoes and after a round walking, carrying on a hilly course. I have no issues. Go to an REI near you and ask them for the brand that you stick in the oven then mold to your feet. I use these for everything, I think i want a second pair!

Clicgear / cart bag harmony
calvie7 replied to trumps4's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have the Ogio Atlas, and a Sun Mountain speed cart. It works great, one thing that I would say is to get one with at least 14 dividers... This one has 15 which is nice sometimes! I am actually thinking of getting back into carrying, and i may look to sell it, if you are interested, PM me I'll see what I can do. Here is the link, but it's blue and Black instead of red... http://www.amazon.com/OGIO-Atlas-Cart-Bag/dp/B000I5LM4K -
Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G grip
calvie7 replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I love that if you click on that Golfpride link, it states the "swing speed" that the grip is designed for... That would be great except it has 3 categories... Low, medium and high... What is a medium swing speed? Wouldn't actual number ranges be better, even if there were only 3? I usually hear these descriptions regarding a swing tempo? I mean come on... Does anybody else feel the same way, or am I out of line? -
Master Scotty Cameron Putters: Worth It or Not? Thread
calvie7 replied to JEWMAH9701's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I purchased a used YES putter last weekend, and went to the yest factory here in Denver yesterday... I was talking with their "tour" rep who was fitting me, he fits the tour players M-W, then goes and works with the rest of the world Thurs and Friday... Anyway he was saying that Scotties are either the only ones or are one of the only companies that make putters with 4*'s of loft... Most of the other companies have 2* or very close... anyway his point was that with 4* of loft it will take more time for the ball to get rolling. With 2* of loft, it'll roll even faster... Something that YES says their "C" grooves help to do as well... I have noticed a huge difference since using the Yes putter. I did ask him why so many Tour players play the Scotties if they don't produce the best set of putting circumstances? His reply was simply that they are clearly the most lucrative contracts out there for tour players. Not sure how much was true, but it was interesting insight from someone who works with them 3 days a week! As I was walking in to get fit, he was finishing his text to Kevin Stadler congratulating him on his round! -

i witnessed a man dislocate his knee at the driving range
calvie7 replied to clearwaterms's topic in Golf Talk
This is appropriate for any forum! On a side note, glad the wife didn't get hurt, but witnessing did it seem to happen in Slow Motion? I can only imagine my gramps, loading one up into his wife, he'd probably tell her she was standing in the wrong place... Great Stuff! -
Has anybody used the bridgestone? I got a couple of them this last weekend, and I am really excited to give them a go! I have been a FJ/ Soft Joy person forever, and when trying them on they all seemed like their quality was decreasing! The number of options from FJ is overwhelming lately... I used to be a huge fan, but i think i am going to make a switch for good, or until they make a glove i like again.

Golf ball has me perplexed...

How did it last after the next 18? 72 holes with one ball is awesome, you make ball makers every shake in their revenue producing boots! -
3 wood broke today...need some advice
calvie7 replied to Philip9210's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The plus isn't anything more than 2* less loft on the face if i remember correctly... as far as the shaft, people here on these message boards will tell you different things, but a regular should be fine with a nice solid swing... if you get into the 100 MPH driver swing speed you may need to have it checked... but I think the steel shaft should suffice... I guess I am unaware of what shaft I learned on, I think at the time that there was only steel or graphite... so my suspicions is that i learned on a reg flex... I am sure it'll be fine... and don't worry about the Plus, get it and learn to hit it into the fairway each time... you'll become a deadly component of any best ball team! -
Looking for the next iron set.
calvie7 replied to JBellanca's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just hit the new Callaway Diablo irons, they were pure, and will not only help you learn, but be a nice club for a good long time (5 years) while you learn... In response to the OP, I would never think of the AP1's the AP2's are so nice, you will never want to change... much smaller sole so they do require a little more skill, but hitting them is a dream! -
Looking for driver shaft recommendations
calvie7 replied to odstore's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I too selected the D2 after about 3 weeks of hitting all sorts of drivers... Honestly after I selected the D2 i went through the process of shaft selection... I am no tour player and the 15 or so shafts that were in their fitting cart were more than enough to tell that the club was going to be great because of the head and how i felt at impact. I wanted performance and feel... some of the shafts transmitted too much or too little feel. I had 2-3 shafts to pick from based on performance, but easily the one with the best "feel intangibles" was the stock VOODOO shaft with the S-Core Technology. I had mixed feelings about this because it was a "stock shaft" and I wanted a custom fitted... then i realized that just because it was stock, didn't mean that it wasn't the correct set up for me! I have to give Titleist some credit if it was right for me, I'd bet that it's right for a lot of people. After using it for a good period of time, the weight ration of (head to shaft) is great creating really nice balance! I guess I am saying, use their fitting cart, and don't be close minded to being "fit off the shelf" I was! -
How often do you change your grips?
calvie7 replied to mrprovisional's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Being in Portland, does the rain really effect them, here in colorado we don't get much of that in the summer, our moisture comes in flake form in the winter... I am considering a move to the NW and I would appreciate the info, oh and try the rubbing alcohol trick for extra tack, maybe if they aren't on their last legs, just a quick once over, instead of the tough rub down. -

3 wood broke today...need some advice
calvie7 replied to Philip9210's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I like this last bit of advice... I would also reccommend not putting a driver in the bag until you can controll it, while hitting it at least 225. I played with out a driver for the first 10 years I played... I learned to hit a 3 wood like nobody's business. I don't miss fairways with it, and now use it off most tees. I hit it around 275, and when it's in the fairway at 275, you have a great start on any hole. My personal favorite 3 wood to learn on was the Calloway Steelhead plus. it's a 13 degree 3 wood. The toe is slightly closed, which is usually great for beginners, and I bet you can find them these days for less than $30. I would reccommend finding one with a steel shaft, the old steel rifle shafts were great... find that and learn to hit it and your handicap will drop below 20 in 2 months... Focus your efforts on hitting the fairway, and chipping/putting... -

Another trick that i have used recently is to take rubbing alcohol, and scrub them with that.... I usually pour a bunch on a microfiber cloth, then rub it down! It really adds a lot of tack to a grip, It may decrease the life so only do it when they are almost dead to get a little longer out of them... Warm soapy water works great as a "maintenance solution", but if they are at the end of their life, try the rubbing alcohol. -
Humm, maybe I always hit the middle, but I won't be switching away from my YES! to anything for a good long time. It will take a great putter to Knock mine out of the bag... If you do buy it, and make a trip to Colorado, call YES golf and schedule a fitting. It doesn't matter if you got it new or used, they'll fit and adjust it for you for free! They have great customer service!

Mixing Hybrid Brand into Iron Set?
calvie7 replied to KenStone's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Another tip would be to go to the courses around you and see if they sell clubs. If they do, then ask to demo theirs and then you can custom order from them. The only way to do it is to test out a lot of different types. If this takes traveling to some place that has a lot of different options then do it, see it as a road trip, and play golf there... use it as an excuse. I would recommend telling the wife (if applicable) she has a $300 shopping spree and send her on her way... This will buy time and afford you the cost of about 2 hybrids, or 1 and some other fun things at a golf store... While going to a big box retailer would be fun, the course option may be better as they may have one you can hit on their range, instead of just in their store's hitting bay... anyway TEST them out! -
J_Bone, how long have you been doing it? Did you notice a positive difference regarding Golf? (Swing, putting, chipping, overall performance?) I am getting going now, and i have to say the soreness in the beginning is tough to practice with. any tips?

I am thinking that this year I'd like to update my Putter, and I am thinking that I'd really like the look and feel of a good forged blade. I am looking at a couple of the YES products, they roll so well! I have 2 parts to my question: 1. Those who have used, have or have tried the YES putters, how do they compare to other "high end" putters, and how what general information can you give after playing with one? 2. What other putters would others recommend? I know it's a general question and could solicit a lot of responses, but I am looking for a High end Forged blade. i like the circle milling on the face of the YES, so perhaps something with a similar feel. i am not as big a fan of the flat "scottie" style. I have always had something on the face (insert) and not sure how i'd like the standard no frills face... Thoughts? The last part is that YES is in Colorado and I know you can go to their facility and have one fit at their facility and then they make it with those specs, not modify one to those specs, does any body thing this would be an advantage? I know it would be fun! Thanks for the comments!

Anybody know anywhere else around the country that does this... this is awesome! Perhaps in Colorado, or tips on how to find it? Is this at Chop Shop Golf? Do you know of any other places that do this? Also what was the cost of the entire set? As much info as you can provide would be great! -
JETFAN1983, great video, but on a side note how has P90X worked for you since November?

Balls, balls, balls.....
calvie7 replied to Alohaed's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
These days with the great marketing machine that is golf, i just went through a selection of my own. I went to Mexico for a week, and played 18 holes 6 times... each with a different type of ball... the following were the ones i took along: Srixon z star TM Penta Pro V1 Srixon Trispeed (it was my current ball) Strxon Trispeed tour (had to try it out) Nike Power distance (one in the green box) If I was using score as the ultimate judge, the Nike Power Distance would win. However some days the wind was really up, so that factored in. The 3 expensive balls did stop when chipping around the green with the exception of the Penta, which i had no idea how it was going to perform because it seemed to do something different on each shot. I did stop using the Penta half way through because I just got tired of it and knew I was wasting my time. I can tear a cover off of a Urethane ball with the best of them, but most of the time I have my distance and I don't want to pull it back 15 feet. I want it to come back to my divot, and that's it. The expensive balls had more spin that is for sure. However they didn't result in my best round, and despite the commercials, I don't like the feel of them, especially for nearly $4 per ball. The difference on the green, off the tee and in the fairway was less noticeable, other than feel, between the expensive balls and the mid-range balls. In short iron shots I could tell a difference between the Tri-Speed and the Nike. Given that the Tri-speed is a 3 piece ball this is what I am guessing that I noticed. The "expensive balls" all seemed to have exceptionally more spin, but if you are counting on a 20 foot pull back, and for some reason you don't spin it (I am no pro, it happens) then you are way past. If you are working on hitting the center of the green and your ball just stops at the diviot you are going to have much better results. In the end going purely off of performance, I would say that I am most confident with any of the 3 lower priced balls, but ranking them in order I would say 1. Tri-Speed tour 2. Tri-speed 3. Nike power distance. You may think I am crazy for the idea that a lower priced ball performed better than a higher priced, but for me and the game I play, they were excellent choices. It seems that Srixon is onto something, just IMHO. Anyway I'd recommend doing what I did, and just devote time to selecting the one that you feel the best with actually on the course, who cares what a computer says in a ball fitting! Getting fit for a ball seems like a good way to get you to spend more $ at the golf store, when you could play have fun and fit yourself!
