what are some of the best execises for flexebility
glk23 replied to KSpeer's topic in Fitness and Exercise
Yoga. Started about a year and a half ago. 3-4 times per week about 25 per session. It has made a big difference in my golf game and helped the problems I was having with sciatica. -
I set up a place in my garage to be able to hit balls off an old area rug and into some padding I set up. Went out tonight and after a few swing I hear a funny noice after hitting the ball and thought WTH. Looked at my club and nothing so I picked up the ball I have been using. It's a Nike PD Long and it's cracked about half way around with a small chunk taken out of it. Been hitting the same ball for about a week and I guess its limit was 500 or so hits. Guess I need to start switching up.

Dude, you played today? I got snow in my yard. Spend some time getting yourself in golf shape and it will be more fun. That and in a couple of months the weather should be better, at least not freezing.

I love my Bushnell Tour V2 Rangefinder!
glk23 replied to TourSpoon's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Have had my GX-1 for about a year and a half and continue to love it. With a little practice, getting distances is pretty quick and easy. Also, having exact distances makes me feel confident in knowing what club to hit. For example, a green with a back pin placement that I "guesstimate" to be 136 yds. would cause me to pull a 9 iron; if by using my rangefinder I find the hole is actually only 131 yds., then I hit a PW to make sure I stay under the hole. -
Lots of good options out there in balls for all ability levels in my opinion. Maybe too many if you are a begining golfer trying to choose a ball. I like a softer feel off irons and the putter so when fall/winter comes and things soften up I like the following 2 piece balls: TF D2 Feel, Srixon Soft Feel and Nike PD Soft. Since trial and error buying and trying balls can get expensive, I like look for balls (if time permits) and often find balls that I have wanted to try out. During last season, I was able to find enough quality 2 piece balls to get me through the entire fall/winter without buying any.

Used a pedometer most of last season and found walking 18 to be 6.5-8 miles depending on the course. Walked and carried all of last season without much of a problem. As the weather gets better, I walk 4-5 miles 3-4 days a week plus playing 18 1-2 times. Once I get over the winter layoff, I feel just as good on 18 as I did on one.

Yoga has helped me out a ton. Had a problem with sciatica a couple of years ago and started doing yoga 3-4 times per week about 18 months ago. It has helped a bunch; I'm more flexible and stronger. I also have an exercise ball and some other stretching that I do on a daily basis. Have lost 20+ lbs since the back injury and my game has improved too.

Since I have a range finder, I only use the score card feature. Started using it last season and really like it; keeps all your cards and stats also.

2011 OGIO Grom, my initial thoughts
glk23 replied to LBlack14's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Going to chime in with my two cents. I had a 2010 Grom that I really liked. The only flaw for me where that all the zippers unzip at an angle which puts strees on that part of the zipper. In under two years, I had two zipper seams coming apart at the angle and one of them finally caused the zipper to undo leaving the side pocket wide open and useless. On a whim, I sent an email to Ogio and they offered me 50% off a new bag. I took them up on it and expected another 2010, but a few weeks after ordering a 2011 showed up. Obviously, the first thing I noticed was the 14 way divider intead of the Woode system. While I didn't dislike the Woode system, I am liking the new one a little better. The best is the zippers are now a straight down unzip and should hold up better. I also like the new pocket set up, shoulder straps, stand legs and ball holder. I have only had the bag since November and have been out with it probably 6-8 times, but I like it alot. I would not have been dissapointed to have another 2010, but think the new mode has some good upgrades. -
Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
glk23 replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Driving range/golf store was having a 50% off sale and balls were 2 for 1. Picked up two dozen Gamer v2's for less than $20, felt like I was stealing. -
So far this winter, I have used the Srixon soft feels and D2 Feels and like them both. Today it was about 48 and I used a TM Burner 2 piece and it worked great. Lots of good 2 piece low compression balls out there that work great in the winter. I have used balls I have found throughout the season to get me through the winter. Come spring/summer, it is back to Gamer v2 or TM Reds.

I had an older version with the Woode system and like it, but the zippers on two of the pockets blew out after only a season and a half. Ogio offered me half off a new bag and I got the 2011 version a couple of months ago. Did not expect the 14 way divider, but I like it. Also the zipper system is much better as they go straight down instead of at an angle which put stress on the seams. If you are looking for a light weight carry bag, this is probably not it. I carried my old one all the time, playing as much as 2-3 times a week in the spring and summer. I have played 3 rounds with the new one and think it is a great bag. Don't see any problem with carrying it as much as I did before.

Forgot to add that price is also a factor for me. This time of year it is pretty easy to lose balls that are in or just off the fairways. Soggy places lead to pluged balls especially off the tee. Both guys I played with on Sun lost balls that plugged in the rough less than 10 yds off the fairway. I almost lost one amongst quite a bit of leaves just off the green. I picked up two 15 packs of the D2 Feels last fall for $17 and found enough quality 2 piece balls during the season to keep me going until it warms up enough to switch to the Gamer V2 or TM Burner TP and then on to the Reds.

I do. Love the TM Reds in the summer, but just don't feel like I can compress them when it gets colder. Last fall/winter I went to the TF D2 Feel and really liked it. There is very little need for alot of spin in my area (WA.) as things really soften up quite a bit. So far this fall, I have been using some Srixon Soft Feels that I found during the summer and kept for this time of year. Played Sunday in wet and cold (42 degrees) and I had no problem sticking everything from a 7-pw well under a foot from its mark. One of the guys I was playing with was using a Penta and it did the same thing. Lots of good inexpensive 2 piece balls out there that still have a soft feel when it gets cold. Personally, I like the D2 Feel, Soft Feel, TM Burner, and the Nike PD Soft among a bunch of others.

I switch to a 2 piece ball come fall/winter. I like the TF D2 Feel, Srixon Soft Feel, TM Burner and Wilson Smartcore.

$110 to my door.

I simply told them what had happened and that I was going to need to get a new bag. Threw in a line about possibly looking into a different brand if durability was a problem with Ogio. Like I said, I was surprised they offered up anything.

I've had a 08 Grom for a couple of years and really like it alot. The only flaw for me was a couple of the zippers angled and constant use began to pull the seems out on a couple of pockets. All was good until Sept. when the outside pocket zipper completely came apart leaving the pocket open and not much use. Sent an email to Ogio not expecting much and they surprised me by offering 50% off a new bag. Went to look at the zippers on the 2010 and was happy they were all straight with less pressure points. Called Ogio three weeks ago to order it and not only was it 50% off but they shipped it free. Got an email about a week after ordering that they were waiting on the 2011's and would send me one of those as soon as they were in. First thought was, sweet getting the brand new model. Bag arrived and the first thing I noticed was the Woode system was gone and instead there is a 14 way diamond divider system. Clubs seem to set up nicely, plus better shoulder straps, stand system and ball holder. Zipper all straight down with plenty of room for everything. Finally was able to go out today with it and I like it alot. For some it may be a little on the heavy side, but I walked and carried the 08 all season with no problems.

IMO they are more than worth it. Have had mine about a year and it helps alot. Not only getting exact distance to pins, but other points like traps, water, trees, ect.

Better Topflight Ball V2 or D2
glk23 replied to Slappy9's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Tried the V2 recently and like it. Will probably give it a shot again come spring. Living in WA., when fall/winter comes around I like the D2 Feel a lot. Got 2 15 ball packs for $17 last year and will probably get through this cold season with whats left. Hard to beat for the price and they hold up real well. Also don't worry to much losing a less than $1 ball. -
My two cents worth comes from 50-60 rounds this season on 6+ differents muni's playing mostly as a single so I get paired with lots of 2 or 3 somes. Leaving out the suck factor (yes, 120 strokes takes longer than 80), IMO the number one factor in slow play is carts + people who do not know how to use them. Many seem to think that if you have a cart that means pretty much zero walking. Can't tell you how many times I played with three other walkers only to catch a foursome in carts. I becomes quickly apparant why. For example, pair hits drives one down left side one down right side; they proceed to go to the left ball first, one guy gets out, goes through routine, hits ball, puts club away, then drive accross fairway to second guy who repeats process. Twice as bad when the other pair does the same thing or worse when they go to each ball one at a time. It only gets worse when one of them goes deep left/right and everyone looks before hitting the 2-3 balls in the fairway. It would be easy to go on and on about people in carts. Second biggest I see is people not playing/knowing the concept of ready golf. If you are not on tv or playing for serious money, no need playing honors on every shot. Whoever is ready should hit the shot. Luckily most people I have been paired with understand this, but I have had a few say something. Usually it comes from a twosome when one slices off into nowhere and the other is in the fairway and I have the audacity to walk to my ball and hit it before they find the first one and/or get to the second one. I believe both of these issues fall into lack of knowledge on the part of the weekend/occassional golfer. I think most courses could do a lot more to educate golfers, without pissing people off, if they really wanted to.

I have a 30 minute golf yoga routine that I do 4-5 days a week. I started it a year and a half ago after jacking up my back and needing to drop a little weight. IMO it has been very helpful for increasing strength and flexibility. I also do some lite lifting and walk during all my rounds plus more on off days. Would recommend yoga to any golfer especially those of us getting north of 40.

Lots of good advice. You must practice these a lot if youu want to feel comfortable with them. When I have these shots, I only have two thoughts: inside the hole and firm.

Had a 60 for a while, but just could never get myself to hit it hard enough especially when chipping. Finally went to a 58 and use it primarily out of the sand, when short sided and on fast greens. Since going back to my 56 SW earlier in the season, my chipping has improved quite a bit and not leaving it short as much. For me, I don't like hitting SW/LW with full shots so I often hit 1/2 to 3/4 shots with the next club up.
