  1. Definitely dude. I get my ass handed to me weekly by a 60'ish year old guy who's close to scratch (if he's not scratch).
  2. I don't like the idea at all. The cup is fine where it is now. As already stated, it's the slices into the trees, chunked irons, and skulled chip shots that plague people the most.
  3. This is pretty good advice, but I would recommend people getting their driver's cut down. I'm 5'11" and cut mine down to 43.5" a few years ago. It feels so much better at this length. I didn't notice any type of distance loss either.
  4. Looking for a deep (tall) faced 5 wood for a few holes on my course where 3 iron isn't enough, and driver is too much. I have a burner (07 I think) 3 wood already, but it's a bit too long when it's warm, and I'd link something taller. This will be used from the tee primarily, so I'm not concerned how it works off the fairway. I'd prefer something from a season or two ago for the discounts. Thanks!
  5. In SE Ohio / Northern WV / SW Pa., I'd say that it's not perceived that way at all. All the people I golf with are just regular dudes (for lack of a better phrase). There's a pretty big range of courses on the $$$ scale, which helps. Generally, I pick quantity over quality in regards to where I spend my golfing money. So, I play a lot of small staffed, family owned places with sometimes questionable conditions. It's mostly worth the trade off. I recently looked into joining a country club near me that is in great shape, and super close to home. With the frequency I play, it really wouldn't be too much more than I'm spending during golfing months. Factoring in the cost for paying dues during the late fall / winter, I decided not to pursue it. I have zero interest in anything non-golf related going on there.
  6. Even though it's snowing now, and there appears to be 2" on the ground, things are looking good for golf tomorrow if it doesn't rain. We played two weekends ago and it wasn't too bad. I wouldn't let myself watch golf on TV until I got one round in. lol.
  7. Henrik Stenson - 7 Jason Day -8 Luke Donald - 6
  8. This is exactly what I do. Sometimes, I play with people who tee the ball up a 1/2" - 1" which I cant understand at all. For everything up to a 5, the tee almost completely in the ground works great.
  9. Interlocking on everything. I have a really weak grip on the putter though. I have been wanting to try variations on my putting grip though.
  10. This is a bit off topic, but did anyone else find the coverage really boring? I actually changed the channel and didn't come back to it. Not sure if it's the euro announcers or what, but I haven't switched off a golf tournament...well...I can't remember ever doing it.
  11. How exactly does a course let 6 of you out and why would you not play two threesomes? A 6-some sounds like pure torture to me, why would you even want to play with that many in a group? If your group was waiting on two people, well, I can't even imagine how slow that must be. 3:45 sounds really fast for 6, did you putt two at a time? To the OP, if people are hitting into you, let them through. I do agree with giving it a few holes, but only if you're not clearly slower or playing worse than the people behind you. I walk by myself a lot during the week and there are a lot of one or two person groups that I let through. Although, last Friday I had the day off work and went played 18 by myself. There were two guys on the first tee riding. One of the guys says, "If you're ready you can go". I replied with "You guys will definitely catch me", but he said they weren't playing fast or some shit, so I went anyways. I think he suggested it because he shanked his tee shot and was embarrassed. Either way they caught up to me by the first par 5. I didn't let them through though, just went on playing. By the 9th tee, I actually got away from them a little, but not sure if they dialed it back or what. Didn't get 18 because it started raining, but wtf, I can't understand why they thought I would play faster than them. Two guys in a cart will almost always be faster than one walker. Especially younger guys with a half way decent game.
  12. I used to, but don't anymore. I have a 50, 56 & 61 to choose from depending on the shot and distance I want to hit. The 50 is a matching gap wedge, that I intend to replace as the face is too hot for some of the shots I want to play with it.
  13. Carts are faster, obviously; especially if it's one guy in a cart. Overall, it depends on the golfer's skill level. I can walk my home course in under three hours playing by myself. That includes hitting shots over, taking a few putts, etc. A semi-practice round. I saw two people in a cart teeing off on #13 (a par 5) while I was walking to the 11th green Monday and I was waiting for them on the 17th tee box. I was playing pretty good, but nothing too spectacular.
  14. None, I like the shots from the fairway. I will say that high pitch down hill that you need to land on the fringe in order to roll right onto the green is really satisfying.

    Skateboarding?

Do any other sandtrappers skateboard or maybe have skateboarded in the past? I still ride mini-pipes and and concrete bowls in parks around the area some times. Aside from golf (obviously), I've never really got into any other sports except for wrestling when I was a kid.
  16. Also, I agree with the first iron shot sentiment. The drive generally isn't the problem. It's that first shot into the green. That's the one I'd like to have a breakfast ball on.
  17. The group I play with on the weekends does this and I don't see a problem with it. There is a range at this course, but it sucks. I rarely take on personally. I like to show up 40 minutes early, play hole #9 halfway down and back with two balls and a pw. Then, crank two drives into the woods with shitty balls I found on the course. Mentally, I think the idea of the breakfast ball relaxes me and I end up hitting a good shot since I have another.
  18. Shot a 78 TODAY! 42 on the front, 36 on the back. The worst part is I was -2 coming into 18 and blew it with a double bogey. Oh well, I'm so pumped to finally break 80.
  19. I think what he's referring to (correct me if I'm wrong) is that you turn your body and let gravity and the clubhead do the work on the downswing. I think it looks wristy because of the angles, but your not actively using the wrists.
  20. I like this advice, it works good for providing a stable backswing, just don't over do it. In regards to the original post, I'll reply with a popular sandtrap reply: feel ain't real. I feel like me right arm is quite straight on the back swing, but it bends. It just feels like it is straight and prevents over-bending.
  21. No, it's overall easier I'd say.
  22. A little over a half pitching wedge. I can hit my 56 100 yards, but the pitching wedge shot is so more consistent. I used hit my 50 degree when I was between 90-110, but I like the PW more.
  23. 91 on Saturday. 47 (again!!) on the front and a 44 on the back. I actually shot fairly well on the back except for that 9 I carded on the first par 5. A triple and two doubles on the front.
  24. The golf pride tour wraps are very tacky and pretty soft. One word of caution though, they are like oil slicks if they get a drop of water on them ( I have them on my irons right now). Rain gloves are mandatory even if it's a light sprinkle. The golf pride tour velvets are really nice too, I just wish they came in something other than black. Overall, the tour velvets are pretty tacky and not too hard. They might be the best grip out there imo. I'd probably have them on now if they came in anything but black.
