  1. The range I go to frequently has heaters suspended from the ceiling of each stall. There is a small group of older gentlemen that are there every single day. They have one of these portable heaters between the stalls facing a bench that is there. Primarily use it to stay warm, or warm up, while drinking coffee and shooting the s**%t with their buddies. Puts out quite a bit of heat when I walk past to get to a stall.
  2. @billchaothanks man. Appreciate the suggestion to give this a try. I can tell it will help with shoulder turn and ball striking consistency if I can maintain that width and not let it break down when I don't think about it.
  3. OK, here goes. I like the feeling of width this drill provides.
  4. Thanks for this exercise @boogielicious. I will add it to day 2 and 3 of the Covid 30 day training Erik made that I have started doing. I hit the range this morning and worked on shoulder turn. My main thought that really helped me was "pull" your right shoulder behind your head. I was actually amazed how much farther I could turn when I thought about it. The positive result was nearly instantaneous with a 2 to 2.5 club length further in distance! I was quite surprised and excited. Obviously, if I didn't specifically think about my shoulder turn, I would revert back to my old swing. Hopefully in a few weeks of practice, it will become more ingrained and I will update a video then. Thanks fellas for the feedback and the yardage gain from something so simple.
  5. Great stuff! I'll add this to my practice sessions or while watching golf on TV
  6. Gotcha, I will work on it. Thanks again
  7. Thank you @billchaoand @iacas for the feedback. Aside from stretching to gain mobility, any suggestions or drills you can think of to bring my shoulder turn along?
  8. Thanks for the feedback woodzie264! I apologize for the videos here on my first go. I'll be more cognizant of the angle for the DTL vids next time. The hitting stalls at this particular range aren't wide enough for the face on view to get everything in the frame. I'll try to come up with a way to rig the camera at a different angle facing more downward perhaps. Thanks again
  9. I've been Playing Golf for: 1.5 years My current handicap index or average score is: 15-16 My typical ball flight is: Straight or Baby Draw The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Fat shots and pulls Finally got a few videos today. Given the limited space at the range, my face on view cannot see the ball, but I hope it will provide enough detail in my swing for some feedback. Things I have been working on during my practice sessions since my open heart surgery 4 months ago: 1. Getting weight back to lead side and finishing in balance 2. Deeper hands on backswing. I know I don't have a long backswing and feel when I try to go "longer" or back further, bad things tend to happen. Typically fat or thin shots as I feel it really messes with my timing and therefore I am well out of synch. 3. Regripping less. I used to do this incessantly and I have mostly minimized it although I see it on my take away in the DTL video. 4. Consciously trying not to chicken wing Thanks in advance for any and all feedback. 10. I would love to play daily, but the weather in central Ohio may not allow that at an enjoyable level. I voted daily as I've gone nearly 2 weeks before at least playing 9 holes each day. Realistically, 5-6 days a week would be the perfect balance for me with a day of focused practice and a day of downtime.
  11. Still playing my first set I bought off of marketplace, Callaway X20 tour irons with Big Bertha 3 & 5 wood. I filled out the bag from Callaway pre-owned throughout the season with an Epic driver, 4H, lob wedge and Odyssey Marxsman putter. They have served me well, but am looking to upgrade this coming season.
  12. 1. Break 80 2. Lower and sustain HI from 15.9 to 11 by the end of central Ohio season 3. Continue lessons, at least one every 6-8 weeks. 4. Increase GIR/nGIR to 50% from roughly 35%. 100 yards and in was one key contributor to lowering my HI last year. 5. Play at least 75 rounds. Goals #1 - #4 can be met by focused practice sessions (employing the 5 S's and 65/20/15 rule), lessons (focusing on one priority piece at a time) and on course time. Goal #5 will be subject to current Covid status and tolerance from my wife and daughter. Although intolerance could also lead to more rounds being played.......
  13. 1. Met - I broke 90 several times this season, with my best round being 85. 2. Met - I played 67 rounds of golf this season, even with almost 2 months off following open heart surgery. I'll even get some more rounds in before the end of the year going to visit mom in Florida. 3. Failed - I did not have lessons in September. October and November because of my surgery and preparation. 4. Met - I had a couple lessons that got me swinging driver. Prior to my lay off, I was averaging 210-220 per drive. My confidence with this club grew a ton and was a huge factor in lowering scores and HI. 5. Met - Despite surgery, I feel overall I was healthy and certainly enjoyed the game and the camaraderie it provided. 2020 was a great learning and progress season for me. I have kept an unofficial handicap solely to gauge my progress and hopefully keep me motivated. I started the season at 33.9 and ended at 15.9. I put in a lot of practice and played as frequently as I could and as much as my wife and daughter would tolerate. Obviously, this contributed well to my progress this year. As I progressed, I found I enjoyed the game much more and could even relax more on the course.
  14. I don't. I usually go to my 60, 56, or 52 depending on distance and or lie. I have tried to exclusively use my lob wedge, messing with loft, but I suck too much to get any consistency that way at this point.
  15. Welcome to TST. I'm just north of CBus up by Alum Creek Reservoir.
  16. In SW Florida for a bit visiting the in laws and hanging at my mom's condo. Played my first regulation length course since my OHS at Port Charlotte Golf Club on Monday. I played a mix of red and green tees for about 5100-5200 yards and shot a 91. Still just using 1/4 to 1/2 length swings. I played solo here but was invited to join 2 other veterans at the turn. A great round with some fun military ribbing and camaraderie. Yesterday I played Kings Gate, also in Port Charlotte, with two retired work buddies who reside down here. It is an executive length course, par 60. I ended up shooting 74 here which I was very pleased with as it is very tight with a lot of water. Took 2 penalty strokes after rinsing 2 shots that I blocked. Managed to say "hello" to about a 7 foot gator on the final hole. Another awesome day of golf and catching up with a couple buddies. Next scheduled tee time is Friday at mom's complex, Seven Lakes in Fort Myers. They are finally reopening the course after a 4 million dollar renovation. Excited to play it for my first time! May try to get another round in before then.
  17. I use yardage when playing a new course. I'm most comfortable, yet challenged, in the 6100-6400 range. I conceded to a friend once this year and played the tips and did not enjoy the round at all. I think the course was a little over 6900 so I thought, meh, that isn't THAT much longer. Boy, was I wrong.
  18. I met my mom and took my daughter to a local par 32 executive course yesterday since the weather was gorgeous here in central Ohio. I joined them and played 9 from the forward tees using 1/4 swings. My biggest challenge was deciding what club to use with 1/4 swing. I was grabbing 7-8 irons where I would normally use a SW or 60. Greatest thing was, I didn't care, I was out golfing 1 day shy of 6 weeks post op! Ended up shooting 44 on the par 32 course, but the score truly didn't matter to me. My biggest score is where I am in recovery. I'm forever grateful to my surgery team at Cleveland Clinic for how I feel and my future quality of life as it will continue to get better.
  19. I've been rolling some putts inside this past week. I also took my mom and daughter to Topgolf Wednesday. I hit about 30 balls there to the red and yellow targets. I was quite careful being 5 weeks out from surgery only taking 1/4 chip shots. Felt great to get out and do something more than sit on my ass or take walks. I'm still pleasantly surprised how far along in recovery I am. I am walking at least 3 miles a day and some days just under 5 miles collectively. Each day I can tell I continue to get stronger and stronger. It's a constant battle to stay reigned in and not over do it. I need to heal quickly as my 13 year old daughter was smashing the ball at Topgolf! She'll be passing me in no time.
  20. I agree with the timing being pretty good if it had to happen. It just so happens my mom recently bought a condo in Fort Myers. They have an 18 hole executive course right there at the complex, so I may be heading south around Thanksgiving and or Christmas. Hell, maybe several times through the winter. I mean, I am retired now, so why not. Thinking I may break the putter out towards the end of the week and roll a few here inside the house. Heart surgeons are good friends to have! Hopefully you will never require his professional expertise.
  21. Hey all, I've been home for about 8 days now since my procedures on the 24th. Overall, I am doing quite well. I've been walking at least 1.75 miles each day and the longest has been 2.41 miles collectively through out the day. My incisions are healing well. I've had some Afib issues post-op but I also dealt with that pre-op. It will get better the further along I am in recovery. My surgeon, also a golfer, said there should be no reason I can't play a full round of golf in 8 weeks. I was surprised and he reiterated for me to just listen to my body and start out slow. I know not to expect to pick up where I left off. I would be happy to be out chipping and putting by then. Maybe try 9 on an executive course and play from the reds. Thank you guys for the words of encouragement and checking in on me. I really appreciate it.
  22. 91 for my final round before my surgery. Wasn't hitting driver all that great but still enjoyed the round with family. A beautiful fall-like day here in central Ohio.
  23. Congrats on the ace @Sandtrapp220!
  24. Shot 41 last night for a quick 9 and 85 today at Oakhaven in windy conditions. I am happy with that score as the front played much more difficult than the back today.
  25. This rough is pretty gnarly. I thought they trimmed it some?!! I would imagine they will tighten the course up considerably tomorrow. The greens seem receptive today and pin locations are probably the easiest they'll see.
