Maybe the depression she moved it out of was a little larger (deeper) than a "standard" depression created by the ball itself?
-
I also think its somewhat telling how she came up to the ball, grounded the putter, paused, and then went down to mark/move. It kind of looks like she was just going to tap it in, and then saw something she didn't like.

Signing An Incorrect Scorecard - Should Rule Be Modernized?
14ledo81 replied to Braivo's topic in Rules of Golf
I'm going with no change simply for the reason that @iacas has mentioned before. Why would a player ever concern themselves with questioning/trying to do the right thing if the penalty occurred would be the same either way? -
Especially when she did not walk away from it, but moved it in the same motion.
-
Maybe they should lie and always just say a rules official saw it. I guess that wouldn't really be a lie because the rules official has to see it before making a ruling anyway. Wouldn't make a difference to me, but apparently that would to some. Also, poor Joey Cheeto wouldn't get such a bad rap......

Am I the only one that does not consider it a "black eye" for the sport? On the contrary, I find it admirable that, when faced with a hard decision, they made the right one. If they would have let it slide, and that would have been found out, it would have been way worse. I get that it sucks that it went down this way, but I put the blame on Lexi. If she had not moved her ball 3/4'', none of this would have happened. Again my question to those upset about the viewer calling in. If the rules official had seen it himself on a replay and noticed it would you have been fine? If the rules official had overheard someone talking about it and looked it over again, would that have been fine? If the rules official's wife had mentioned it to him, and he looked it over again, would that have been fine? Where do you draw the line? The way I see it, once the rules officials had the information (regardless of where it came from), they absolutely had to act on it.
-
No. I don't think that. I would be surprised if she did not know the rules.
-
I was just agreeing with the other guy....;) But...... Isn't part of playing better golf knowing the rules? After all, they can also work in your favor.
-
I agree that it is a crock of shit that no one taught Lexi the rules...
-
The officials did handle it.
-
Agreed. I would hope there is a silent majority of other pros that fear to say anything because they would be ridiculed.

Which outdoor activity ranks #1 for lightning fatalities?
14ledo81 replied to dennyjones's topic in The Grill Room
Fishing/boating does not surprise me. Only thing sticking up in otherwise flat terrain. I fish a lot, and do not mess around when lightning approaches. -
Again, (to all those that post otherwise) the officials still make the ruling. The fan does not make the ruling.
-
Except every other sport, the players are actively trying to get away with whatever they can. In golf, it falls on the player to call the infraction on themself. That is why the "other sport" analogy does not work.
-
Are you suggesting they should not be penalized for breaking a rule?
-
What if the rules official had Golf Channel on in the morning of the last day and saw a replay? When he gets "back to work" he decides to look at footage again? Would you be ok with that? What if he gets home and his wife says "you know, on hole x it looked like xxx did xxx". Again the official decides to look at footage later. What if the official overhears someone talking in the gas station and decides to review footage? Are you ok with any of these scenarios?
-
To those complaining about the fan calling in, would it make you feel better if they would have just said something like this.."We continually have officials reviewing video, a rules infraction has come to light, we are now going to submit the proper penalty". I think what some don't get is the fan does not get to make the call if there is a penalty or not. That still falls on the rules officials.

How to Perform a Golf Swing Like a PGA Tour Golfer
14ledo81 replied to DownAndOut's topic in Golf Talk
This is the "rolling shutter" effect. The club does not actually flex forward like that. -
Interesting. The "experts" actually did worse than the crowd.

I went with option #3. I do think he can win another regular event.

My best one came on my only eagle. I was in a greenside bunker in two on a downhill 480 yard par 5. Holed the sand shot for the only eagle I have. I really have not even come close to an eagle other than that.

The single biggest change in my putting came when I practiced daily all winter. I would putt in my living room (max of 15-20 foot) almost every day. The carpet was not that tight, but it was tight enough to have gains. I don't practice it much any more, and my skill has fallen off a bit. Still workable enough not to be a weak point in my game in relation to the rest.

Does anyone get the idea that technology has gone way too far?
14ledo81 replied to Lihu's topic in The Grill Room
I don't think tech has necessarily gone to far, but the way it gets used certainly can. For example, based on government mandates, all residential electric water heaters of 55 gallons must be of the heat pump design. True, these water heaters are very efficient, but the air it is taking heat from is inside the house, and needs to be warmed back up using your heating appliance. What if the heating equipment has a low efficiency rating? I think this is a code that looks good on the surface, but does not look at the big picture. -
I disagree. Angel Cabrera got on a hot streak in two majors. He only has 8 total wins between the PGA Tour and European Tour, two of them majors. I would not consider him at the level of greatness. I agree that majors are important. They should have some weight in defining the best golfers, but I think many put too much weight on them. I am not certain what you are disagreeing with here. I would assume @Fairway_CY also does not put Angel Cabrera at the level of greatness. He did state that (along with the multiple majors) you would have to have a proven track record of winning.
