Nothing in golf is demoralizing....it is all in the mind......gunga la gunga.

Link to the actual poll for those interested. Obviously all polls are subject to errors, bias, etc. Make your own conclusions.

There is a noticeable difference of opinion on this topic among different fora or forums. This has been attributed to generational differences. https://www.si.com/golf/news/harris-poll-shows-pga-tour-vs-liv-shaping-up-to-be-a-generational-battle I do think that the LIV popularity is exaggerated and/or manufactured (the Portland event was supposedly soldout but few fans were visible on the webcast, and I picked up several free tickets before deciding to play instead of drive two hours). However, there are many people who will attend for the novelty, low price, or because "their guy" has jumped. As far as sportwashing, like many golfers and most agents; many younger people don't care

The first option and it's not even close. I might hang out 3 hours after, but if I somehow showed up 3 hours before I would figure out a way to play early.

I worked for the government company that earned the vast majority of income to the goverment. A small part of that income will fund LIV. What did that make me?

Didn't say they were the same...it is a similar principle. Agree, and also want to stay on topic. My point is who is the arbiter of what is right and what is wrong? Also am I evil because I worked in Saudi, the UAE and China?

Does anyone here expressing dismay and outrage also boycott Chinese products? Might be hard in some cases but the principle seems related.

Alternative to Sharpies for Marking Balls?
KMP replied to DoubleAce's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Buy monogrammed balls....done. -
My favorite was a sprinkler head marked "All you got big boy". The distance was 270 or so and unfortunately I did not take a photo.

I liked both Falcons Fire and Celebration as well. The price and tee time options for both were goid too.

If I am getting to the course in time for only one of the outlined options that means it is not a competition or a special round of any kind. Therefore, I head to the putting green if I cannot get on earlier.

Youth on Course - Pay an annual fee of $50 and rounds thereafter are $5 at participating courses.

I hit driver longer AND way more accurately than a 3 wood. There are very few reasons I would hit 3 wood on my tee shot and none of them are more accuracy.

From the OP I assumed full temper tantrums with thrown clubs and worse...basically a full on {word redacted} show. Sounds like you are more of whiner and complainer but otherwise cool. I might give you a little grief about a lot of complaining, but I am going to give the whack job rando as much distance as possible and try to ditch the person as soon a possible.

I would much rather avoid the temper tantrum player. Playing with a person like this would require awkward silence or even embarrassment; which is the least enjoyable golf environment in my opinion. I could give some back to the advice giver or at least blame their advice for my poorer shots.

Thanks for breaking the ice Boog...I hesitated to say he is a tremendous tool.

IMO Dick's is not the best place to purchase golf equipment. I have no problem finding better prices from a variety of sources. When I last bought irons (6 or 7 years ago) I recall they were listed in the same range you quote. I admit to coveting new shoe models every year, but wait for the end of the year or even the next and no worries. I find the price of greens fees on some of the higher end or "destination" courses is far more disconcerting than equipment cost.

What Is the Deal With Courses Going Cart Only?
KMP replied to Quack's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I think it's only you and certain courses. None of the courses in my area require cart and one does not even allow them. Very few of the courses I played in Michigan required carts or payment for the same. Maybe your old haunts have gone "upscale"? -
Time of day is not important to me. However, work pushes most weekday play to the afternoon, and twilight prices tend to do the same throughout the week.

My goal for 2022 is simply to try to maintain a smoother and more consistent overall swing. This is a continuation of what I was doing more of in 2021, and could see good results. In order to accomplish this I will use more club if wind, wet, elevation or other factors would require a harder swing. If I am able to achieve this, I will benefit by striking the ball better, reducing mishits and short shots, and being closer to the hole more often with less dispersion.

A former playing partner used to give me the speech on how much time one wastes with taking off and putting off headcovers (as I was sitting in the cart replacing the headcover and waiting for him to leave the tee). I just told him if he would quit giving the speech and "reloading" after bad shots we could easily save at last 30 minutes a round.

I didn't mention the execution of said plan. In practice I would mess up at least one shot and end up having to either punch toward the green from trees, or hit a second pitch from the front of the green. If I was successful at that point, I would then proceed to miss the par putt and hope to be close enough to preserve the bogey. 😋

Easy for all you pluses and low HCs to say.... In my case, driver off the tee since in the PNW wet; no way am I going to have a 275' drive. From there it varies on the situation and distance. full 54 or 60 would be great if close enough and it's not too soggy. In the winter definitely more likely to bump PW off the front to try to stop on front third.

Thank you all for the start on education on this topic. All very helpful!
