On EACH of his balls? Hmmm ...I guess in a match that would be good to inform your fellow competitor(s) of the markings on one's balls.

I hit a blind shot out of a fairway bunker today that ended up shorter than expected and in a divot. The divot had the grass attached and was not replaced, but sticking up skyward. My ball rolled into the divot and the attached grass flopped down over my ball. I could not find a definitive ruling but assume I was out of luck since this was not a loose impediment. Can anyone confirm or provide an opinion?

Or would you rather just play on at the turn and get food after the round? <---- This one

The Worst Person With Whom You've Ever Been Paired…
KMP replied to ChetlovesMer's topic in Golf Talk
While I agree to some degree with most if not all of your points, I find the "trash talker that does not take a hint" the most offensive. I am referring to the guy that thinks golf should be played with a steady stream of insults, bet offers, and one liners designed to throw you off your game. I enjoy the social aspect of golf that includes conversation, so totally shunning and avoiding a person is not my idea of a fun round. Even worse is the guy you have to tell in direct terms to stay away and leave me alone if you can't shut your mouth. -
A couple of courses in my area have a nearly hole sized disc attached to the bottom of the flagstick. You pull the stick gently and the ball comes up for the ride. So yes; I do pull the stick to remove my ball. Just try to penalize me! ... And get off my lawn!
-
I leave it in since there is a good chance when pulling it after making the putt I can pop the ball out.

We really need a third choice between 1 and 2. Agreed. Colleges can include grad schools but undergrad wins my support when they play each other. I have lived in a few other places and started to like one or more of the teams in that location, although I still favor my home teams. Just as often I don't like one or more of the pro teams; for example and of the Dallas teams...no thank you. Now I like the Seahawks and Mariners, and there is no NBA team here (a plus in my view). I want to like the Kraken, but apparently it's not ok to offer criticism of their play, the expansion draft picks, their outrageously high ticket prices, or their announcing team. So for now I will ignore them and their team (emotional support) dog.

and don't forget tigerwoods. 🙂

Agree...Ty Cobb and many others lacked in the same qualities, and didn't Big Papi also have a "dubious result" on a PED test? Not to mention spitballers, bat corkers, and other methods of gaining an edge.

Frost or snow = no go. I don't want to damage greens and temp greens are no fun. I prefer not to play in heavy rain but in the PNW rain is rarely heavy IMO.

I was going to suggest Eagle Eye and Hawk Hollow. You could add Timber Ridge (on Park Lake Road); which has the "Up North" feel with elevation changes and is very reasonably priced. You could also play Forest Akers (West is longer and harder).

I am not sure what qualifies as cheaper, what radius from GR you want to include, and if you have access to private courses. Mines (DeVries course), Pilgrim's Run, American Dunes, Thornapple Pointe, Quail Valley, and a few privates (Cascade Hills, Egypt Valley, Blythefield and Thousand Oaks) are potential options. No info on Muskegon golf.

I tried it today and it would only let me input real words. I finished in three tries with all gray, 4 green with 2nd letter a gray. What works best for me is to guess words with a lot of common letters first.

Closed Courses You Formerly Played
KMP replied to bkuehn1952's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
High Pointe in Williamsburg, MI (Doak's 1st design). Front 9 is a hop farm and I think 18 is gone (no big loss there), but some of the back nine is just grown over. -
The Hay - Pebble Beach's Par 3 Course and Putting Green
KMP replied to iacas's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Played it the morning of New Year's Eve. Greens were awesome; fast and true, with many false fronts and slopes. The staff treats you well and you definitely get a Pebble feel. Distances to pins are shot every morning and are posted with a tag on the tee marker. A daily "putting course" is set up and that is free to play if you play The Hay or not. -
You forgot Notre Dame 🙂

If it is Ohio vs. Michigan does that mean Spartans get to play on the Ohio side?

That is correct Chet.

Looks like plenty of people have covered the negatives so I will try to focus on positives. However, I do agree your demographic is not "all golfers" or the segment of lower spending golfers. You have to find something that makes you different, and able to receive a premium price. Why would people be willing to frequent your establishment rather than using you to establish what they want to buy online? If you are in SF you probably need to focus on the premium customers, to overcome his rent, taxes, and even parking costs. Club repairs, custom fittings and the like could be a solid part of your business, but you will likely need time to build up a client base. How many people really even check their lofts and tune up their clubs even annually? I consider myself an avid golfer willing to pay for equipment, apparel and other items, but I won't pay "$200 for that special leather head cover". However, I have seen plenty of members willing to pay crazy amounts to have their name and club logo embroidered on that new bag. If you can tap into that crowd they can keep you in business. Customization might be a service you can provide for a number of clubs and courses; hopefully at a premium price.

Yeah...and are going to cause a lot of damage on the course.

How Come We Can't Find and Arrest These TikTok a-Holes?
KMP replied to ChetlovesMer's topic in The Grill Room
Shooting threats in our district came to specific students and the school in general. They were sent from an individual on the East Coast. The student was ID'd and was dealt with but there was a great deal of wasted effort on the part of the school admin, police, etc. on both coasts. -
Stop Deifying Old Architects - George Peper
KMP replied to iacas's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
George Pepper seems to be well past his "golden age" in writing. The article was incomplete and one-sided, or did he lapse into nap hour and submit his unfinished rant. No architect is infallible, including designers with the best reputations of the modern era. Name your top modern architect and you can find poor courses and/or ridiculous holes they have designed too; maybe even more in some cases. -
Business school seems to generate more than a fair share of inane phrases. Along the same lines many of the "speak to impress" crowd feel the need to use "space" when referring to an area of business, along with "what does that look like?". For example "What does success look like for a greens keeper? "Well we are familiar with the greens keeping space so can give you an idea but courses can differ."

8 - Confidence comes with preparation and committing to the shot. However, I voted for the words that went with the number, and not the position on the scale. On a scale I would place the importance of confidence at 5.

Hopefully Sunday!
