  1. 2 stand out 1-i got some insurance money & bought a set of x16 pros with s300s at RETAIL. Could not handle the lack of offset or those shafts. Lost out huge on them. Still sore at the guy who let me walk out with them. "You're a young guy, you need those stiff shafts." 2-learned to play by playing TW2003 for PS2 with a buddy of mine. So before we started playing i went out & bought a 1 iron. Figured i can hit from 260 on TW i can probably get 240 out of it being a newbie.
  2. Sarcasm? I don't know the meaning of the word. ;)
  3. The '07(?)/'08 burner hybrids are fantastic too. Right shape, weight, & most importantly length.
  4. Wilson 507 blade. 1 round. Been in & out for 7 years. Stupid mallet went back into the closet of shame.
  5. Yessss!!!!!!! I hope it's a driver!!!!!! It's about time they released a new one!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Do yoga. It's boring, but it'll stretch you out like you wouldn't believe.
  7. My father in law shot a 74 with a topflite a couple of seasons back. Par 72 course, back tees. Every ball is a good one with a good swing. & i've proven that i can sink a prov1 as fast as a TF but for a fraction of the price. Neither float especially well.
  8. Yep. I've had people tell me they like the smoothness of my swing. I don't really swing frantically & usually hit my irons a pretty decent ways. I've also had people ask me how i hit the ball with my swing. Somebody last round tried to fix my loop to the outside on the backswing. I've developed Furyks swing without even knowing it. Sweet.
  9. I've had that happen on alot of rounds. I just chalk it up to my incurable hackeritess. That is, my swing plane is more suited for irons shots somedays & woods another. I had one round where i was pounding my driver. Didn't hit one under 265 & hit one over 280 For some, not much. For me, pretty outstanding. Couldn't hit a damn iron to save my life. Opposite last round. Was ok-mediorcre with the 3wd off the tee, irons were great, wedges were all over the place & putter was demon possessed.
  10. I think Mr.Miller has it right- mix it up. Isn't the clinical definition of insanity doing the same thing over & over & expecting different results? Play different tees or change it up off the tee. Example my home course #1-Short par 4 310 blue/287 white. The green sits perpendicular to the fairway & is guarded by three large bunkers squenced in front. Bunkers, steep downhill & finally hazard behind. So the approach has to be flown accurately to have any real chance at bird or par. Woods up the left side, watery death on the right. I've teed off with everything from 8i to driver. Generally i hit 6i to leave me a sw on. If i'm feeling frisky or bored i'll pull out the driver & go for it. Haven't put it on yet, hit the front & bounced off once. There's another course we play frequently with the 17th hole from hell. 224 yd par3 with a hump in the middle of the green. Green is 52yds deep. Death left & right. Everybody pulls out driver to hybrid(except my father inlaw who hits 4i dammit...). So i started hitting pw twice. Puts me in the middle everytime putting for par. Having to retee from 224 is not appealing. There's endless creativity in this game, you've just got to let go of what seems logical sometimes. Also if you tee with the same club everytime & average bogey on a hole, doesn't that just seem wrong?
  11. LOL...i've felt that way before. Worse than chinese food. Hungry for more an hour later. I swear golfers are sadists. Anyways, relax. You obviously love the game, so don't give it up. I used to be a little more obsessive about it. Watching TGC, reading mags, online instruction, etc. Once i ran out of time to play & practice as much i found my outings much more enjoyable. I'm not in danger of breaking par anytime soon but bad shots don't really upset me. Just happy to be out now. I still think about the game a fair bit, but conciously distract myself with other pastimes. Best idea i have off the top of my head is video your swing & post it here. People here seem to have a wealth of knowledge. & it only takes that one little nugget to make your swing thoughts 'click.'
  12. That's awesome! I heard tiger's little tidbit along the way somewhere. During one of his youtube clinics i think. The one where he's smacking the crap outta his 5wd. I still pull out my 1i on occasion at the range. Haven't played enough to do it on course this year. You've got to be in a pretty good swing groove to hit it well.
  13. SMT DB455 5* 48" HOF Jamie Sadlowski XX flex. Callaway BB 13* A flex. Impossible to recommend. Are you 5'2" or 6'6"? Swingspeed? Tempo? Best recommendation-go try something with a big head. That'll cover forgiveness. After that it's pretty much up to what fits your eye & keeps you in the fairway more often than not. Putter-most personal club in the bag. Once again, what fits your eye. Personally i cannot putt with something that is a mallet & over 34"(i hit myself in the nuts otherwise). Odyssey is huge in putters. Lots of different models. PING too. Just buy the one that makes all the ten footers.
  14. Oh yeah. Easy shot. I could hit that with an 8 iron. Blindfolded. Left handed with the toe down. Nothing to it. Actually, i thought it was a pretty cool shot. But i'm a high handicap & obviously have no idea what i'm talking about.
  15. 210 5i off the tee. I've never hit a 5 that far before. I took a practice swing & got the perfect divot. My swing went 'click.' Oh, there it is. So i teed off, parred the hole & quit. That was #9 & i told the wife i was only playing 9. At least i finally got warmed up.
  16. Even Tiger has adressed that. The balls today don't spin enough to get that 1 iron up anymore. If he cannot keep it in the air, who else has a chance? The technology arguement is moot. Different rough, different greens(grass & length), course length, ball differences, groove differences, etc. The balls of yesteryear & persimmon drivers worked, the balls of today with ti drivers work. If they were switched it would be a mess. Basically, if you took Tiger in his prime vs Jack in his prime, level playing field, same course, same equipment, i don't think Tiger would win that as easily as some here seem to believe. Jack was always very competitive, a proven winner, AND HE COULD CLOSE. That's always been Tigers big strength too. That ability to put it away when it counts. Impartially, i think it would be close. Personally, i think Tiger has been a douche this past year. Marital problems happen, fine. When you bring kids into the mix your priorities have to change. I've got no respect for his situation. I'm glad his wife booked it. & for the record, last guy i saw with a 1i on tour was Olazabal.
  17. http://www.fairwinds.ca/golfing/index.htm This is it. Also my place of employment. Free golf, gym, medical, dental, etc. are some pretty decent perks. Front 9 drives me nuts some days. Really about placement. Back 9 is more about the big stick. If you can keep it in play the back is fairly easy. The whole thing is about real estate sales. The golf is just icing.
  18. Congratulations! That's nice to see someone playing the game for all the right reasons.
  19. Exactly why i always keep my clubs in the car! The chance for an insurance funded retool is amusing. Don't forget to claim the picasso. Back to topic, car thieves suck & should be hung. I had one guy break into my car in the middle of the night. I busted him & chased him 3 blocks with my louisville slugger. Man some people can run fast when they're scared.
  20. 152yds, my ace. Outside of that maybe 15 yds. Guess that's why i'm a high handi.
  21. Whatever. Let him wail away. I had a lousy day at work once a few years ago when i was building houses & i went to the range after. Hit nothing but drivers. Just flatout swung hard as i could trying to kill the ball. It was fun & therapeutic. If it's somebody really long i'll usually tee up driver to try to outdrive them for fun. May as well challenge myself. With mat ranges, which we have an annoying # of, you've gotta make your own fun. I like to alternate between long club & short club. More than 6-10 drivers in a row & the iron swing gets a little dicey. & i have to be honest. I usually just put on my ipod & zone out. I rarely notice what most people are doing there.
  22. Nope. I carry clubs i'm going to use. I like them all equally. I once dinged up two 8 irons from two different sets in the same week. I hit an underground rock both times. 2 different courses. Two nice big sole gouges.
  23. The 3dx original version was just a hot hybrid. It plays like a hybrid should. I had no problems hitting it, & i'm a higher cap. I also have had a single digit & a canadian tour pro who i played with hit it as well who both nuked it & could exhibit some serious control over their flight. Of course they both flew it about 45yds longer than me. It's also got a really great sound & no real hook bias.
  24. My 3wd. The level of trust with it is off the charts. 7i is a close second. It's very versatile.
