  1. Take this for what its worth, I am a first year hacker, had an older hand-me-down odyssey 2ball. I never hit good with the putter, my wifes grandpa, they guy who gave it to me said it was cursed. I ended up having to part with that putter (long story) right around my birthday. My wife surprised me with the new back stryke 2ball because I wanted to replace the old one with the same one. I am not putting spectacular yet, but I am sinking more puts in general, and doing much better on longer putts then before. The line of sight is much improved and I am able to align it much better.
  2. Hahahaha, your funny, by costing me some distance do you mean from the ball to the pin on the second shot:) Honestly It may be or may not. I never really got a good read on distance because they would go so far off to the right. At the range I still hit the fence which is about 245 yds or so. Not any different from before when I did hit them straight.
  3. Yeah the vikes sent 3 team mates to get a definite answer on Favres return. He needs to stop being a puss and either play or retire. Commit to something already. Why all the attention •••••-ness and having the vikes begging him before he commits. It puts the staff and owners in a weird spot because he played so good last year to deal with it a little, but cmon.
  4. Mmouse, have you tried to choke up on the driver shaft at all? I hit my driver better than I did before starting the stack and tilt, but still not perfect. I recently read a thread here about choking up and thus shortening the length of the club and it made a noticable difference. I moved my hands up a full 2 inches from the butt of the club.
  5. Did the same with my wife for the first time a few weeks back. Was kind of fun but very stressful to her. She has a bad hip so she did not play every hole, and got very intimidated by the 500yd holes. She did okay, but really prefers the short par 3 stuff. We have a par 3 course here locally so I guess thats where we will golf together. Also it really adds to the golf budget when your suddenly paying to greens fee's, more balls, beer ect. :)
  6. I played only once when I was down there. Wish it was more but...the beach was just so dam nice:) I played the myrtlewood palmetto. It was 44 bucks for 18 with cart. The course was really nice. The only gripe I had was they had to come out atleast 40 times to tell us to hurry along. We had a 4some ahead of us for the front nine, and no one trailing us. The back nine we were just out playing, not rushing as there was a full hole behind us clear. The 14th had a guy there asking for some money for a kids house and his story was 20 minutes long. We had the guys behind us catch us there and we let them play through and told the ranger that next time by. Just cant see why they wanted us back so bad when we were obviously not holding course play up.
  7. Right now I am playing nike 36 pack from a wholesale store. They are reloads and are gtg for me. I initial them usually and thats it.
  8. I am in the same boat as you, except I call myself an inconsistent ball striker. If you were great you would not be inconsistent. If your tale was one of "I normally hit the ball great, for ten years its been a solid 5 h/c, then something changed the last 2 months and I have been inconsistent" thats what I call a great ball striker who has hit a drought. It really seems to be more of you being dishonest then you being great, your jumping all over everyone who even remotely suggest your just getting lucky on your good shots. If 66.666666% of your shots are crappy, then you are not great by any stretch of the imagination. had the ratio been 2/3 good then it might be a different story.
  9. Just for future reference, maybe you posting your number or sending a pm to another member here and having them call would have helped. With that said, if you get new gear out of it, I would be ok with it, and looking to quietly sneek down there more often before they lock the doors so it happens again. More gear:)
  10. A few years ago, I was of the mind set, buy a cheap set of clubs just in case. I already new I wanted to play, but was to cheap to spend the money. I ended up with a cheap set, learned on them, then got a better set of clubs. Albeit they were handed down to me after a death in the family, they were titleist clubs. Even at 15 years old the quality was so much better. The distance i got out of them compared to the old cheap set was night and day. Essentially I had to relearn the clubs again. I guess what I am saying is, if your serious about the game, buy the new driver and play. Also look for some good solid irons to play on.
  11. My first go at it at the range ans then again playing a round my distance was way off. I like you put it on the new swing. After 3 rounds and a few more range sessions I am doing very good now. My local range is 250, but down hill, google earth places the fence at 242, I now consistently hit it. On some of my better drives I used google earth to figure the distance and it was consistant 260 or so now with one bomb of 280. I had a fall back this weekend though, I was over thinking the shot and was slicing the ball again. Every drive was met with huge amounts of thought process which i had done away with in the last week or so. You could tell it was there.
  12. I am a golf newb by all accounts, but I have one peav that erks me, playing with people or before/after people who arent sure what ball there playing with. I dont mark my initials on my balls, I will be next time out though, but I always know what brand and model along with the number. For example, last round I hit a shot and pulled it left, it went in shallow and could have come out the other side of the wooded jog onto the fairway, but wasnt sure so i hit a provisional. The second ball was dam perfect so I stuck with it. In the meanwhile my playing partner hit a slice to the next fairway which the local league was on so it was 20 mins before he could get to it. There was only 1 twosome behind us so we let em play through. The first guy hit one left into the woods, then another, then another. I went to find my first ball, which i did, by then the other guy was down there and I said "titleist 3" which i knew I was playing that day, he said "yup not sure what number, but I'll take it". None of his ever had a chance to begin flight over the fairway let alone go in and out of the woods, but I shut my mouth and let him play it. I ended up getting it back 3 holes later when he hit about 30 tee shots and left them all but the one he actually played.
  13. Thats more than likely what it is.
  14. Yes your club face is open to your swing path, but I think your club face is straight to your target line.
  15. So if I may offer a suggestion, instead of looking for a bag with a huge cooler, why not give an honest go at golfing. Utilize the course and its natural beauty as a way to cool down, relax and enjoy life. Trust me, I am as big a beer drinker as you, but lately I have been using golf as an elixer. If you make a conscious decision to enjoy your round and when you feel like getting frustrated stop and control yourself you will find the game much more enjoyable for you and those you play with. Then you wont feel like drinking or atleast that much because you will find the potential in your game, not magnify the flaws like you do now. Maybe then you might even concentrate on getting better because of it.
  16. Maybe you shouldn't be drinking while golfing if this what happens. I understand the art of getting drunk, but if you cant make it 18 holes then maybe golf shouldn't be your priority. I'd hate to be the lady or kid on the receiving end of your 5 iron after 20 beers and you miss the cart. Just sayin. I would not be bragging about your poor ability to handle your liquor or your poor ability to maintain some level of self control.
  17. Just to clarify things, does the ball start straight then fade to the right, or does or does it start right then get worse from there? Based on this I am going to tell u that this was me. I made the conscious choice to follow the s&t; swing and I think more than anything having some basic principals to go off of have helped alot. I was always standing up on the top of the backswing which brought me to my ott swing. Having the guidelines of s&t; have honed my thought process into constant spine angle, hands in on the backswing, and maintaining my inclination to the ground. This, like is being discussed in another thread, may or may not be the basics of good golf, but they helped me considerably. Last nine, most every drive was straight and irons were good. Still have alot of work to do with consistency, but for 2 months of bad habits play/practice and a week of s&t;, I am happy at my progression.
  18. mmouse, what were some of the things your pro had you doing to hit the ball more consistently?
  19. Sorry Iacas, got the two mixed up. Feel free to move my post if it serves the thread better.
  20. Well, i bought the book, read the backswing stuff, more than once and practiced. I had some questions about the initial movements but the book answered those. Off the tee friday i drove a lot better, I only had 2 bad slice shots and the other 7 were decent. I did notice with the 10.5 degree burner the ball gets off alot higher than before. Distance seemed consistent with the good shots and the old bad swing. I am having a hard time with the irons though. I am topping the ball alot resulting in short ground balls. I did notice on the irons i made good solid contact with it gave me a good one club change in distance for the better. I had a couple 9 iron shots where i would normally be on the green with a slight roll, now have turned into a hit to the back of the green and roll off. Once i gain consistency with the swing mechanics i guess i will be relearning distance control again. It made for a bunch of nicer shots friday, but the same scoring due to the bad iron work. I was happy though with the results so far.
  21. Nice progress nuck. I just bought the book myself and find myself practicing alot with no club just going through the motions. I have made great strides since yesterday before the book doing what i thought was right. I guess my advice would be practice the drill with the rock to get your feeling of straight arms ingrained. It also looks as if you still have a minute weight shift going on. I can only assume with more practice it will disappear. Stretch, thanks for the knee tip. I do the same as nuck does, so i have work to do.
  22. I have been video recording alot of my swings at the range and working on issues as i figure them out. I am currently working on trying to maintain my address position spine angle throughout my entire swing. My issue is at or near the top of the backswing i begin to straighten up, then the beginning of the downswing, I end up almost vertical throughout the rest of the swing. This causes my arms/hands to be about 5 inches higher at impact then at address. I saw a video of a golf master pro describing it for every 1 degree more vertical the club angle is at impact the ball goes 11 ft right of the target. No matter how square the club face is. about 3:10 in. This really peaked my interest because this is a huge issue for me, and tis caused by me straightening my spine to almost vertical.
  23. Thankfully it did not break mid swing and injure someone. I hope titleist takes care of it for you.
  24. I like to putt out everything. Most times its a 2 putt, but sometimes it just seems like it wont end. I am not that good at reading a green yet so there is no guarantee i will make any of them:)
  25. why not use the same stance just pointed to your target, not to the right. Drop your foot back a bit all while aiming for your target. Turn your whole body while in that stance counter clockwise as if you were a spinning display.
