  1. Turn with your chest, leave your arms passive throughout the swing and loosen up the grip pressure. Your tension is killing your swing
  2. Great deal of hype on this shot. One of the simpler shots in golf, lay the club open, play the ball forward, take a full swing with very, very relaxed arms/hands, AND DON'T LOOK UP!!!!!!!! LOL
  3. Same as putting, wait until after you have hit the ball. Also, important on chips to grip it loose to allow wrists to hinge-a little or alot depending on the shot-don't start downswing until you feel the wrists hinge and keep your posture avoid slouching or rounding shoulders. Experiment with ball position also, forward for high shots that bite, back for lower shots that roll. Mind set should be"everytime I keep my head from moving I hit a good/great shot"
  4. Unless you are hitting punch shots or stingers, don't lean shaft. If you swing correctly, this will happen automatically.
  5. First, make sure you are hinging on backswing; on downswing, just allow the uncoiling to happen and take your arms-control-out of it. People flip because they are steering or trying to dominate the downswing with the hands/right arm. Just let the uncoiling of the chest happen.
  6. My point is: guys with shorter shafts try to hit the ball harder, they swing faster, harder and hit less flush. When you have a longer shaft in a low lofted head(must have right combo), you have a tendency to swing better, easier, and learn to hit it more flush because the swing is using the big muscles(must be taught how to do it). Simply going to a longer shaft will not do it, fitting with correct shaft(ie.flex, kickpoint, cpm etc) and correct head(low lofted) and teeing the ball higher and more forward while swinging within oneself and on plane. Yes, alot of if's but those who are willing to work a little will get big rewards. Who wouldn't want an extra 20 yards.
  7. So, no one has ever told you their posts didn't show up? I certainly know how to post-see my other posts-but for some reason my post yesterday got lost. I did hit the post quick reply but later noticed the post did not show. Ok, for now I will just watch and see what happens. I am a PGA certified master professional.
  8. When someone spends time posting then finds that post was dropped or does not show up, it is very frustrating. I will think about not posting anymore rather than waste my time. If you don't want certified, qualified teachers to post, keep it up.

  10. I have stated in another post that most fitters and teachers are recommending shorter shafts rather than teach someone to swing properly. I have been using a 48" shaft for years and at age 65, put it out there 265 carry. Do I miss a few fairways, yes but not that many and certainly less than my shorter shafted buddies. It's all about perfecting one's swing; once that is done, you should be able to hit a 60" shaft. People who understand what it takes to hit it long, will all recommend longer shaft for driver, no exceptions.
  11. It's all about the swing. I use a 48" xxstiff in a 7* head and at age 65 I average 265 carry in the fairway. I believe too many fitters and players use too short a shaft in drivers to make up for a bad swing. Instead, get a good swing and you can enjoy distance with a longer shaft and lower lofted/lower spin head. Don't believe the hype, perfect the swing.
  12. When we swing smooth and allow things to work we get distance. Your other swings have tension from trying to hit the ball hard, tension kills distance(and trajectory). You should be swinging tension free-so-go re-calculate those distances. When I want extra distance, I swing easier.
  13. swing easier and stay on balance. don't rush it you probably don't ever practice long irons. instead of taking your easy clubs to the range, take your long irons and leave your easy clubs home. In a week of range time, you will be hitting them fine.
  14. Not seeing your swing is a disadvantage but I usually look to how active the legs are when someone hits pulls and hooks alot. Generally, overactive legs, ie. too much movement on downswing, causes pulls where as too little leg activity causes pushes. Try with your feet fairly close together just timing your left knee flexing in toward the ball on backswing and right knee flexing inward toward the target on downswing. When the timing is correct, you will hit great shots, speed up that action and you will hit pulls. Amateurs have trouble timing the leg action and pro's work on it constantly. When someone's swing goes awry, it can often be tied to the legs.
  15. Practice makes permanant so be careful with that to make sure you are practicing the right techniques. I would say for those of us who found "the secret" we probably gave up the old "hit the crap out of it" philosophy and worked on making our swings smooth, balanced and without tension in arms. When you learn that the big muscles work the swing and loose the tension in arms and hands, you begin hinging the wrists which transfer power to the ball along with the centrifugal force of the swing. work on technique and perfect the above
  16. No, the gusher is however "more proof" how Cheney and Bush(and the people who voted them in twice) set us up for failure. The govt is doing its best to fix a problem the current administration had nothing to do with. I don't feel sorry for the folks on the gulf coast, they took the money all these years knowing the risks, failed to vote honest people in office, ignored the warnings from environmental groups, admired one another for being lazy opportunists. Now that all heck has broken loose, they are first to blame someone else. It's their fault, frankly, I get sick of seeing the whiners on tv.
  17. Tom Watson spent his whole career not taking much of a divot; he's a "Picker" as they say. If you notice, folks that have the ball more forward, take much less of a divot. It doesn't mean anything. Topping for you may be ball position too far forward.
  18. Do not "try" to hit down, it is unnecessary. If one stays centered-does not sway-AND: turns the chest on backswing without hands and arms manipulating the swing, then just allow the club to drop as one turns left on downswing, an iron will automatically do its thing. Take an iron and look at its bottom edge, it is made to cut into the turf after striking the ball first.
  19. You have too much tension in your swing; try swinging with dead arms. Turn your chest on the backswing and just let your arms go along, same with downswing, keep the arms and hands out of it. Try half swings at first to get the feeling then move up to fuller swings. Remember, light grip pressure, no tension in arms, start the swing with the chest. Should see great improvement.
  20. My reply post to your search quote below did not post so I will try again. Your turn of the chest and hips(to a lesser degree) will initiate and control your swing not your arms. When you try to get arms involved, that's where the power leaks occur. Just take a short iron and at address, let your arms hang. Now just turn your chest to the right and allow the arms to follow along for the ride. Take a half or quarter swing like this and then move to the left-no flex or tension in the arms.

  22. Dear PP"Broke", don't give in yet, golf is all about persistence. any good player, myself included, has gone through many a lull in his or her striking career. Understand that with a driver you are positioning the ball differently, and, impact is different from irons. I suspect you have ball position and impact position problems which are easy to fix. Go see a pro but in the meantime try to understand with driver you are hitting up on the ball and with irons you are hitting down on the ball, ball position helps us do this, not a completely different swing. While you are now probably hitting up with driver and ball position is forward, understand that when you move the ball back with irons, you have to turn your shoulders and keep a strong left side at impact into the ball.

Watching many who struggle, I notice most if not all have no clue how to use the left arm since most are right handed and think somehow the right side is most important or at least they allow their right side to control the swing. For those who have striking or directional problems, check out your left arm and see if it is straight-not rigid-on backswing and straight-not rigid-at impact. You may find it is not. When the left arm is allowed to free wheel it or when it is ignored, there is an early bend on backswing and chicken wing at impact. Just my two cents worth.
  24. Could not vote because my answer was not among the choices. I keep my chin out, not up or down. keeping it up implies difficulty seeing the ball/ keeping it down interferes with shoulders turning. Out is a natural consequence of good posture, ie. straight spine, not slumped or too upright.
  25. Just turn your back to the target going back and turn your chest to the target coming through. For some that is 90* turn and 45* hips, for others it is 70* turn and 35* for hips, you get my drift. The main thing is when you actually turn your back to the target while keeping your head steady, you will feel coil, that is power.
