how about putting on a tournament that honors the old days? dressing up like Vardon and all the old schoolers and using the wooden driver and woods. there would be a certain era clubs you had to use (not as far back as hickory shafts lol). go to any thrift store and u can find some old smashers to play with for probley $30. would be hard to use period correct balls but maybe there would be some restrictions like using cheap nitros or something???? has anyone else thought of or done this yet?

We played a round as part of my brother in law's bachelor party, and the group in front of us wore the old school knickers and such. They didn't play with old clubs or anything but it really took us all by surprise when they walked into the pro shop.

Lost ball, that is genius. I'm going to the Goodwill today to pick up some "woods". I'm going to pitch that idea to my tuesday night scramble organizer. At least we could use old school woods for the tee shots and maybe some old putters on the greens. That would be the format. Real woods for the tee shots and old putters on the greens. hope I can find a left handed driver! :-O

There's always old golf gear on craiglist. I saw some old McGregor Tourney's on there the other day for $40. I learned how to play on those old chrome plated nightmare clubs. Actually hit the ball pretty good back in the day. I haven't seen any old balls for sale. That could be brutal. I don't have any appreciation for easy to split covers and rubber bands flying everywhere. I remember hitting beat up balls on the range back in the day. They didn't last very long back then.

i use to be big into bowling league. just like golf everyones into the latest and greatest stuff and getting the most hook and hit out of the ball. making the area for forgiveness great and the requirement for skill very little. even so much that the PBA did a plastic ball tournament seeing how plastic balls hook very little and most dont have a core inside of them and produce very little hit and carry through and pocket making accuracy a must. kinda neat to turn that over into golf where u might only hit that old doggie of a wooden driver 180-210 yards and u better hit it straight lol if your not hitting that dime sized sweet spot on those old irons good luck buddy lol

I've played golf in MS.

I've played the MSU course in Starkville on a couple different occasions.  It's a really nice course....go there!! LOL  You must live way out in the boonies if there aren't any nice courses around.  I do understand there are some rural areas with nothing around......but if you live near a Dicks or Edwin Watts, there are bound to be some golf courses too.  Most of the metropolitan areas should have some decent courses.  There are some nice courses near the coast too....  How is it an Ohio guy is telling the Mississippi guy where to play golf in his own state?  Hehehe

I bowl too:)

I'm definitely a better golfer than a bowler, but I'm working on it..............I can pop off some big games when the lanes are agreeable.  My biggest weakness is making adjustments.  Luckily I am a lefty so I don't have to adjust much.......LOL

You need to look around a little more (i.e. Google); there's a hickory golf league in MS: https://www.hickorygolfers.com/mississippi_1218_r.aspx

i got to a 195 average and shot a 299, 300, and 750 series. not bad for only bowling for 2 years. it just got old. same old people that the same old leagues each season. they never wanted to put out enough oil on the lanes either. i could play any part of the lane but most nights id have to throw my plastic ball just to keep it on the lanes. have an 11 in a row with my plastic one night except i crossed the foul line cuz i was having to throw it so hard lol. wanna buy some bowling balls? still have 15 Lane #1 balls just collecting dust lol

You bowled that after 2yrs?  Shit man....You have some talent. I just started too....in 2012.  My my high game is 266 and I am rather proud of that!  I think I have talent too LOL....I had two 8/spares and 9 strikes for my 266.  I've had a couple chances to beat that game but failed in the 10th.   I figure if I can play near scratch golf, I should have the hand eye coordination to bowl well too.

My son took an interest after a bowling birthday party, and it evolved from there. My 9yr old son rolled a 204 rolling 6-8lb bowling ball spitwads.   I'm more impressed with that than any game I have rolled.

You can just say I'm a fast learner. I get obsessed with something and pick it up quick. When I was learning to bowl I was practicing at least 3 days a week and 3 hours each day. Learned to play every part of the lane but my natural throw what the big hook. While everyone in league is playing down 2nd arrow and drying that part of the lane up, im flarring it between the 3rd and 4th arrow and getting it out to the 5 board and watching it murder the pins lol. Had only been playing golf a year and was shooting in the mid 90's. I've been playing off and on for 4 years and I'm in the mid 80's with an all time low of 78. Always been self taught and a figure out what works for me type guy. I don't want anyways swing but my own.
