Putter Length... How tall are you?

I have been using a 35" cameron red x, and I'm about to sell it and upgrade to a fastback.

I notice sometimes that I scrub the ground with my red x, therefore I choke way down on it. I'm not sure if I choke down on it because it helps me not scrub the ground or if it's because I like my right hand to hang off the grip and actually hold the shaft to get more feel.

I know I have a straight back and straight through putting stroke. So without getting fitted is there a typical length putter for a certain height? I was leaning towards a 34 this time but if I do wanna hold the shaft I'll have to bend my back further over as to where I can stand up straighter with a 35... but I thought the 35 was too long. Any suggestions?

How tall are you and how long is your putter? I'm 5'9 or 5'10 and I'm about to make an investment in a putter that I plan on using for many years to come. Any opinions are welcomed and appreciated.

I'm 6'4" and use a 35" putter. It's a little short for me, so my next putter I'll make sure to get the right length. (Anyone know if you can special order a Cameron at 36"?)
I would go for a putter fitting. The lie may need to be adjusted a bit. I know that many if not all putters can have this done pretty easily. If you are scraping by the heel of the putter, then you'd need a flatter angle. A more upright angle if the toe is scraping. If you get properly fit, you should get the exact length and lie that fits you and your stroke. As far as I know, there is no real formula for this since everyone's stroke is different. Just try different lengths and get what's most comfortable.

I am 5'10" and just got a 35 inch putter. I stand more erect and it allows me
to view the line of the putt much better.

Yeah, I'd have to say you may even want to go 33". If you are of course, 5'9" and not 5'10". I read in Tiger's

How I Play book that he says to have everything loose, arms dangling from shoulders. Using that theory, I'm 5'10" and use a 34", I'd almost like to go 33.5" just to try.

    • Day 133 (25 Apr 24) - Worked with the Divot Board today added a piece of cardboad behind the ball to help reinforce ball first contact. Contact improved through the round.   Added grandson's football goal posts about 10yds out to add a good start line visual Good session today.
    • Day 120: 4/25/24 Full Speed Spectrum training session. Low energy today and my speed was lower than normal. Will see what I can do on Saturday.
    • Day 541, April 25, 2024 Ten minutes after lessons. Still not caught up, but should be by tomorrow evening.
    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
