Hello guys,

first of all I live in Germany thus my English is not perfect. If there are any mistakes in my sentences, I'm sorry. So I recently started playing golf. I'm not really good yet but I'm getting better and I think I'm about to figure out how to actually do a decent golf swing. Now I was thinking to buy my own Golf Set. What do you guys think? Is it a good idea to buy a golf set yet or should I practice a bit more thus I can figure out more about my own golf swing. Because I heard that Golf clubs need to be adjusted to different Golf players and to their way of doing a golf swing. I also heard that Golf clubs need a fitting. So heres my next question. Whats a fitting?  If its ok to buy a set what golf set do you recommend to beginners. It shouldn't be to expensive. Im thinking to spend about 450-500 dollars. Hope you guys can help me. Thanks.

I personally would recommend that you get a matching set of irons, but the rest of your clubs can be based on preference. You don't need to have all the same brand for irons, wedges, hybrids, and woods (I wouldn't touch a driver for a while). A putter is really a feel-based club, and you definitely need to try out different ones and see what you like. As a starting point, you should probably go to a golf shop near you, and try out different clubs and see what does or does not work for you. If you already have a set of clubs that you like, you can look at either similar ones or look at different ones if you want a change. If you're looking for a cheap, but good, set of irons that are fairly easy to hit, the Ping Eye 2's are nice (though I am biased, since I own a set) as long as you don't hate the look of the topline.

My bag:

Driver: G10 10.5* w/ Pro Launch Red Reg

3 Wood: G10 w/ Pro Launch Red Reg

18* and 21* hybrids: G10 with Pro Launch Red Stiff

4-PW: Ping Eye 2 Irons w/ Reg GS 95

56* and 60*: Tour-S Rustique Wedges w/ Stiff KBS Tour

Putter: Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum Newport

Go for a package set of clubs from a decent online "authorized" dealer.  In Europe, there are plenty e.g. Clubhousegolfdirect in the UK - you get cheapest prices plus free delivery if you spend the amounts you're talking to.  Spend some time talking to a professional over the phone - your English seems pretty good to me.  I bought a Top Flite beginner set and that was great - I also hear good things from fellow beginners about Wilson.  Both are well within your price range.

Fitting is when you visit a professional (in a club or store) and they have you hit balls and clubs on monitors to determine characteristics of your stroke (e.g. swing speed and best lie angles, lengths of clubs etc fitted to your swing).  If you're a beginner, don't worry about this.  Just buy a cheap beginner set as above and see if you enjoy the game without spending too much money.  If you enjoy the game, get some lessons from a professional and wait until he advises you to get a fitting.  Much wiser way to maximize returns from your money.  Will also be the best way to develop your game.

Hope this helps.
