Just got done watching my first analysis.  Very excited to get to work ASAP.  I do have a question though (maybe I need to be asking this through Evolvr).  The main thing Stephan wants me to work on (in addition to posture i.e. chin tucked, shoulders rounded) is keeping my lead knee flexed toward the target on my downswing through impact as opposed to how I currently straighten it.  My question is, what does this accomplish?  I'm guessing it has to do with getting more weight onto my left side for better contact?  Is it so I compress the ball more?  Either way, I will do the stupid monkey thing and see where it takes me :)

Yes not having it straighten so soon allows the weight to be more forward, better contact (easier to do Key #3) and it also effects the path.  Check out these posts for more info.

So I've continued to try to improve my swing whenever possible this winter.  I can't wait to sign back up for Evolvr when it starts to warm up for good and I know I can make it to the range more than once a week.  Anyway, do you guys see anything that might help me?  I noticed my club is very closed in my back swing in these DTL videos, not sure when that started to happen.  I've been working on trying to get more elevation to my swing and keeping my hands more in front of my chest rather than so deep.  My swing tends to be very flat so I've been dealing with a lot of inconsistency, more hooks than slices but my ball flight is very unpredictable.  Any thoughts would help.  Thanks!

The ball is a bit back in your stance for an 8 iron in that one face on video. Should be about 1-2 ball widths more forward. You can do for a bit more all together rotation to start the swing. You are a bit hands to early, and your hip turn is not enough. Meaning your moving your hands and shoulder to much, and keeping your hips to quiet. Rotate your hips a bit earlier in the backswing.

Nice looking swing IMO how is the ball flight?

My irons are pretty decent, mostly draws with the occasional hook or top.  With the driver/3 wood I'm all over the place.  Everything from hooks, to slices, to worm burners.  I'm thinking I am holding the club too tightly and influencing the club face as I come into impact.

Yeah, I noticed the ball position too.  You're right about me being handsy in my takeaway.  I think I need to work on more of a one piece takeaway.  I also don't like how my lead knee breaks inward rather than out over the toes.  I'm going to try to fix that too.

No, one piece takeaway is a myth. Unless it is a feel that is specific for your golf game, taking the hands back for the first 2 feet or so of the swing isn't a good thing. I am taking about the complete opposite. You want to have the hips rotate earlier or faster in the backswing. Feel like your right hit goes back and up quicker. You should feel a stretch in the right side of your back .

To help with the knee, flare your feet about 30 degrees.

Interesting.  I'll try to get that sensation at my next range session.  Thanks for taking the time to comment on my swing.  I appreciate it, even coming from a buckeye :)

Signed back up with Evolvr tonight.  Looking forward to getting better.  Here are the videos I submitted.  I'm guessing my priority piece will be the overswinging.

Not seeing an overswing here. Overall looks pretty good dude, definitely doesn't look like a 20 handicapper swing.

Thanks, Mike.  I wish my scorecard agreed with you.  I just really hate that my head gets turned so far off the ball.  I think I need to work on more side bend to get my shoulders steeper and not go so far back.  I guess we'll see what my Evolvr instructor has to say.

I can see what you're saying. One thing that stands out to me is that you're sitting back on your heels at address. I'm sure the Evolvr guys will see the same thing. Can actually hurt your ability to side bend.

Yeah, that's something I consciously do because I often lose my balance on my follow through and fall forward onto my toes.  I realize this is a compensation for something else.  What that something else is, I don't really know (maybe swinging too far in-to-out?).  That's what I'm hoping Evolvr can help with (in addition to the myriad of other things I'm doing wrong).

You could also be falling onto your toes because you're setting your weight on your heels and it tries to re-center to re-balance during your swing.

Pretty guaranteed your setup will be addressed in your first lesson.
