Im not going to argue with a pro, but I know for me and for other high hcp's I know - if we lift our head prior to impact in anticipation of watching the ball flight, nothing good happens.    Lydia is an example of what I'm talking about ... keeping the eyes on the ball and not prematurely lifting the head

Most pros look like that, yes, but that doesn't mean it's a requirement. They could also close their eyes and whistle Dixie and still hit the ball better than you (or I).

Again, I haven't seen your swing, but I'd still wager that I'd tackle ten other things before worrying about your head "lifting in anticipation of watching the ball flight." I've quite literally never had to work on that with anyone. And likely never will have to. Your head comes up on its own to watch the ball flight just fine for most people. If anything, far too many people keep their heads buried in the ground for far too long.

Post a My Swing thread.

On the bit about keeping your head down ...

At a point or two in my two years, I've taken that piece of advice a little too far. Maybe I was just sick of hearing it. One round saw me lose no less than six balls because I didn't catch sight of my ball of the tee and none of my helpful, advice-giving, buddies were watching either. It really sucked at the time, but it was a lesson learned.

I absolutely agree to what iacas is saying. In my opinion there's nothing bad about moving the head early in the follow-through towards the target.

My first thought when I see one of the pros really staying down after impact is that it sure looks pretty.

My second thought is that if I did that my already injured right rotator cuff would last about one good swing and my never injured back would soon follow.

No thanks.

Post a My Swing thread.

I'll try to figure out how to do this - I'm just not very good with the iphone / uploading stuff (I'm proud of myself I figured out how to list that picture - LOL !!).

But she allows her head to follow her shoulder immediately after contact. She doesn't stare at the spot where the ball was for more than about 0.2 second. Otherwise, I think your follow through is all screwed up.

.

But I have to say that staring at the spot where the ball was long after contact does work for putting.....for me anyway.

But I'm not really picky about the ball I use.

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
    • This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
    • He's right in what he's saying.I also have done this experiment with a golf shaft swinging with one arm at a time.one arm at a time is for me very fast but both hands together are very slow ..I got my 17 year old son to do this experiment and he swung very fast with either hand and he swung very fast with both hands together..My conclusion up to now is ; I'm not using my wrists properly but I not a 100 percent sure just yet..I will keep trying to fathom this out .I'm a 12 handicap and my son is 3.9 at Westlancs..
