Courses will only grow the rough for a few tournament a year. When the rough is long, the pace of play slows down to a crawl. Same for the tough pin placements. I can always tell when a course has just done a tournament like a club or city championship. The course I play is a muni, so the rough isn't real bad. The trees on the other hand... Even the top notch courses don't make the rough real bad. Pace of play. The pros will bomb it whenever they can. I believe the PGA is not making the rough so penal as they did in the past. Spectators want to see the big dog and low scores. They don't want to see Tiger hit stingers all day long.

Some of the rough we have in Florida isa place you do not want to be. You can lose your ball just a few feet off the fairway.

Yeah, I was playing a Disney course there and it was basically fairway or take a drop (my rules, anyway)  You could watch a ball slow roll out of the rough and never find it, even though physics says that it won't be even a foot into the jungle.

And that's not fun. I'm surprised Disney let their rough grow like that. It's been so bad you'd have to find it with your feet. What's the penalty for stepping on your ball? If we couldn't find it, we'd play it as a lost ball in a hazard and drop one in the rough. I know you're supposed to go back to the tee on a lost ball, but there are groups waiting. I'm not going to hit provisionals on every hole (I spray a lot as well as my partners). And this could be for balls that just roll from the first cut into the rough. Miserable.
