When do you start looking at distance and elevation?

I've now been playing fairly consistently for almost 2 years now. My thoughts have been just on building a repeatable swing that gets me good contact, learning the game, and lately accuracy.

At what point do you start building toward a faster club head speed? My iron distance is quite short compared to decent golfers.

Roughly

PW - 110

9 iron - 120

8iron -130

7iron - 140

6iron - 150

5iron - 160

I'm starting to hit greens a lot more, but it'd be nice if I could go at a green 160 yards away with a 7 iron instead of a 5.

Now I've never been a big hitter, in baseball I was more of of an Ichiro than a Barry Bonds, in hockey my go to was always a wrist/snap shot rather than a slap shot (and I played defense, lol).

But I feel like my distance should still be at least 10 to 20 yards further. Is this something that comes with time or is there probably a severe swing flaw?

Also I feel like I could use higher elevation. More in the 7 iron through 5 iron range.

Start a thread in the My Swings forum with some video so people can see where you're losing power. Could be a number of different things, but that's the only way to figure it out.

And if those are carry distances, you aren't that far off the norm. My 7 iron carries around 160 on a normal swing...but my clubs are also generously lofted.

The Internet Adjustment Formula:
IAD = ( [ADD] * .96 + [EPS] * [1/.12] ) / (1.15)

IAD = Internet Adjusted Distance (in yards)
ADD = Actual Driver Distance (in yards)
EPS = E-Penis Size (in inches)

Yeah I need a new My Swing video, the last one I posted was me trying to correct my slices. Haven't sliced in a long while.

Now that vid is just embarrassing to watch.

Yeah those are my carry distances based on where the divot is the ball makes into the greens. Thanks slice o' life!

as above get some advice on the my swing section, but hey....if everybody was actually honest about how far they hit it then i think youd find you are in very good company!! I mean, who doesnt rip it 280 off the tee with alarming regularity?? lots of guys apparently who then also fall 25 yds short of the green with their approach shot 9iron from 120......"cant believe the wind got up just as I swung it" yeeaah riightt tiger!! I think you would be well advised to carry on regardless with your repeatable and accurate swing!!

As a caveat I am drinking while I write this so excuse the slanderous chat above!!

While distance can be good for some par 5's and 4's, and I guess longer par 3's, it certainly isn't a must to carry a 7 iron 160 yds. I've known a few guys that barley hit driver over 200 yds, and still shot in the 80's on decent 18 hole courses.

As was said, a video of your swing would help a bunch. On a side note, imho I wouldn't sacrifice a lot of accuracy to gain 10 more yds, if you can, great.  Good Luck
