ok

i have to confess i have recently become addicted to golf forums (better than working just)

but my blood pressure is increasing because i keep reading rubbish -

Please Please Please - if you dont know what you are talking about or cannot play golf (20 plus handicappers) do not feel compelled to write stuff that you reckon might kinda possilby be true and pass it of as fact or offer golf advice (you cant play why should anyone listen)

sentences that begin - i am studying are not allowed!!! (if i was in charge)
actually the above line applies to anything a student says!

sentences beginning - i have studied (not at school) are acceptable.

so much rubbish - also argueing on the internet - what a pastime

rant over - (please no advice) blood pressure is fine now

Although I do agree with you on some of your points that too much is passed on as fact when it is incorrect, I disagree with you about the 20 handicap rule. There are plenty of people out there that know a ton about the game but for various reasons can't get it to work for them. Maybe they don't have the time to play enough or practice. I consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable about golf but based on this I am a few bad rounds from not being able to comment on the game. Just my opinion, certainly not fact.

its credibility -

I don't take it personally, but I also know that I can help a bad golfer become a better golfer by giving them a few tips. I am not one of those guys that follows every shot someone takes with "You know, if you just..." But if I see a glaring issue I will try to show them something easy. Example: My best friend was addressing every iron shot with the ball too far forward in his stance and his hands behind the ball. He was topping everything. I moved the ball back a few inches and his hands forward and he immediately improved his contact. I'm not Butch Harmon but I could see what he was doing wrong and I fixed it. Same goes on line. I am not going to tell a 2 handicap how to play but if a 30 is asking for advice that I feel good about I don't mind offering my help.

Fair enough. You just have to take it with a grain of salt. It's usually pretty easy to see through BS.

like i said i have recently started using these forums way too much. the amount of rubbish passed on is crazy - and people lap it up. if you have 2000 posts you automatically know what you are talking about!

NO

if you have 2000 posts you should go outside and swing a golf club!

maybe you should get a free 10000 piece jigsaw when you reach 2000 posts that says in BIG WRITING - GO OUTSIDE!

Are you new to the internet in general or just golf forums? The whole net is full of people blathering on about stuff they don't understand, passing beliefs off as facts etc. Nothing to get worked up about just on a golf forum IMHO. Take a deep breath, pop a blood pressure pill and don't have a heart-attack over what someone on the 'net says. It's just not worth it.

Foolish post, everyone, regardless of handicap or education has the right to voice an opinion, especially when that opinion is asked for in the form of a thread on this forum. Part of me feels 'get over yourself' I have not seen you make contributions on this forum that are any more worthwhile or credible than that of a 20 handicapper.

If you don't like it, or if it threatens your health (blood pressure). You know where the (virtual) door is.

Seriously, if you can't bear to sift through rubbish all day long, then don't bother.

Too give him his due, I do believe he competes in long drive competitions.

Although his constant remarks about me concerning my education "i dont care if you are studying!!!!!" is getting tiring, the fact I know more than him seems to be one of his pet peeves

Yeah, the whole thread is funny. I was just stirring the pot.

Just because someone doesn't want advice from a higher handicapper or someone who's "studying" the game, doesn't mean they should all stop posting. This is all about reading and writing opinions, advice (both solicited and unsolitcited), and being entertained IMO. We shouldn't take these things too seriously. Does he keep those long drives in the fairways? Does he need help with that?

Here's another way of making the point others have made: Someone could be an excellent sand player but be a 30 handicapper for a multitude of other reasons (can't drive, can't putt, no course managament, home course is difficult, etc...) The original poster would have us ignoring anything such a person has to say about bunker play.

Handicaps don't tell the whole story.

    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
