For a while I was really liking the "Black Max" as an inexpensive ball with premium characteristics. But, now they are not available any more (unless someone knows of a source).

I've been looking around for the next best thing, which has premium playing characteristics, at a reasonable price. By premium, I mean the standard $40/dz balls (Pro-V1x, Callaway HX, Nike ONE, Bridgestone B330, Srixon ZUR, Taylor Made TP).

I have tried the Maxfli Tour Fire, and I find it to be decent, but not as much spin as the premium balls.

I really like the B330, but haven't found any decent deals.

And, there are always the Practice and X-Out balls. I saw the Taylor Made TP X-Outs at golfsmith for $20.

Any other recommendations?

I'm just getting back into playing after a layoff. I knew my game was gonna be ugly and rusty so I purposefully went with low cost balls to get me up and running.

I bought a 24 pack of LaddieX and also some Titleist X-Outs.

The Laddies are fine and have certainly served their purpose, however I found a gem of a ball amidst the X-Outs: The NXT Tour. One of the sleeves was those. I noticed increased distance, improved accuracy, held the greens like they were velcro, putted well and excellent around the greens.

After I run out of Laddies I'm restocking with the NXT Tour ball.

Top Flite Gamer....awesome ball for $20 a dozen!

I posted my thoughts on this ball in another thread a couple of days ago if you care to look..I can't find the link though!

I normally play ProV1x but decided to try the new Gamers and was very impressed. I think you will find a great value and great performace in this ball.

I guess you need to define performamce ball,

I don't know about price but as for performance, the TM TP's are fantastic as are the B330s's... If you really like the B330s then don't change, they're pretty darn good

I just bought some NXT Tour logo overruns from 3ballsgolf for $20/dozen. I think they might also have ProV1 logo overruns for $30/dozen.

Wilson just came out with a new ball called the Original Titanium. Right now you can get two dozen for less than $20. I've been playing these balls for the past couple of weeks and really like them a lot. Very nice feel, good distance, good control around the greens. The perfect ball for a hacker like me.

I just got some pro v1x's this weekend. i love this ball for the distance and the spin. I want to try the Precept Laddie X's, but they just wont bite as well on little pitch shots for me. The Callaway HX Hots are a good ball to me as well for only $25 a dozen. Another good ball is the Srixon AD333. I hope to try the new Gamers, and I hope they're better than the D2's

I agree. I have been playing NXT tours for about 1 year now and bought a box of e5's out of curosity last weekend. Ive only played 3 rounds with them so far but Ive noticed little difference between the two. The NXT "drops and stops" a little more stiffly than the e5 does. But besides that, there is little difference between the two, and at 25 a dozen, a good bargin as well.

But at the same time, the NXT tour is only 5 bucks more a dozen than the E5 so after im done with that box of them I will probably go back to the NXT. They're so close i might as well just stick with what im used to.

E5 or E5 + about $20-25/dozen, great value and has a urethene cover. I have been playing them this year, like them a lot more than the new nxt tours.

I agree. I think the E5 is the best performing ball for the price. The urethane cover gives you great check on the greens. It does make the ball a little less durable and there are signs of wear after a a good wedge shot, but still a solid ball.

I'm a fan of the Bridgestone e6+ and the Top-Flite Gamer of Soft (kinda the same ball). I've also used the Titleist NXT Tour and I would go out and play any one of the three. I tried the Srixon AD333 but it was a little too hard for my liking.

I played today at my home course and tried out a few new balls. I played the Srixon Z-URS, Top-Flite Gamer, and a Pro V1x (my usual ball). The gamer impressed me the most. It plays as well as a $40+ ball imo. But the Srixon was just as good, and maybe even a little longer off the tee, but for the price, I would prefer the GAMER

I can't stand any Top-Flite balls I find them to just be total rocks, also the e5's and e6's. I do like the bridgestone B330's alot, you can pick them up cheap as well second hand, but they are still brand new condtion, I never buy new balls now.
