So, I can no longer b*tch about never winning anything at tournament raffles. Yesterday I won a set of 2008 King Cobra FP irons (4-GW) at a tournament.

http://www.cobragolf.com/irons/details.asp?id=27

I wasn't really in the market for new irons, although my PING ISI Beryllium Copper irons are getting up there in years. I also don't really keep up-to-date on clubs and technology, so I don't know anything about these clubs.

Are my PING's better than these?

I don't want to try them out if I can sell them (since they are shrink wrapped). If I sell them, any suggestions on the best way to go (EBay, trade-in, etc)?

Thanks guys.

I would suggest taking one iron out of the shrink wrap and hitting with it at the range. If you want to sell them afterwards just clean up the club and say they all have shrink wrap except for the _ iron. Won't bring the price down at all.

I'm not sure that I can say if they are better than your current clubs or not as I have not hit either set.

I guess what it comes down to is if you really need the ~$500 (approx. ebay price) that these clubs are worth or not.

If you're sell them, you could always upgrade other parts of your bag (Driver, wedges, etc.) if that is more important

Better is a relative term. Only way to find out if they are "better" is to actually hit them. If you don't want to keep them, I suggest donating them (to me).

True, "better" is relative. I know my PING's are nice clubs, so I was just trying to get a sense of whether these are high-end, mid-level, or WalMart specials.

They are a game-improvement club and i hit them at golfsmith. They were pretty solid clubs and my friend has the 07 FP's. I personally like them, but to each his own.

I actually really like the Cobras. They are very forgiving and an all around solid club. Your pings are great clubs, but technology IMHO has changed quite a bit in the last few years. Go to a golf store and demo the cobras. See if you feel a difference. Then you never have to take the ones you have out of the shrink wrap.

I recommend trying the same set of iron at your local golf store and see if you want to keep them, otherwise sell them and buy what you need and want.

I have these irons and I really like them. They are not a super-game-improvement club like a G10, but they are forgiving. Very nice clubs, IMO.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. For my next set of irons, I feel like I really should get custom fit, so I think I'm going to put these up on Craigslist and see what I can get for them.

Anyone have any good or bad experiences on Craigslist?

I haven't used craig's list personally but I have heard nothing but positive things about it...unless you're in the dating ads lol. :P

    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
