Just curious what weight training exercises would be good to help my golf swing for distance. I know I need to work on flexibility. I belong to a local gym so I have access to a large range of equipment. As for my body structure I am just over 6-1 and am overweight weighing about 280. I am dieting and want to get into a weight training schedule with cardio. I did walk 9 holes yesterday it was tuff bu I know its good for me. thanks

Go with the bodybuilding basics: Squats & stiff legged dead lifts for legs (don't neglect calves), incline & flat bench & flies for chest, military press & lateral raises for shoulders, for arms do dumbbell curls (bi's) and cable pushdowns (tri's), and bent over rows & lat pull downs for back - do abs every other day, and eat at least 1.5 grams of protein per body pound. Stretch both before and after each workout. Mix in some machine work from time to time, but keep it simple with free weights – free weights strengthen all the little stabilizer muscles. Do 3-4 sets and keep the rep range between 8 to12.

Just work on being in good shape overall. I personally dont believe in golf-specific exercise programs. In-shape is in-shape.
One thing I would say is not to work on bulking up and building too much muscle. Being overly muscular actually limts your flexibility and hurts your golfswing.
Overall, Id say just do 30-45 minutes of cardio a day (walking, running, riding a bike) and then do pushups and situps to tone up your core, then work on being more flexible.

I may do a combination. I use to be a avid cyclist 2 or 3 thousand miles a year. Actually rode 2 centurys a couple years ago and about 50 lbs ago. That would be good work for cardio and legs. Probably do some light weight workout. I really dont want to spend too much time because I still need to swing the club. Better yet I may just change my lifestyle and try to work out in the mornings. Thanks for the ideas. Keep them coming
