I need cheap game improvement irons...suggestions?

I currently use Golfsmith P2 irons...4-PW and a 55 and 59 wedge. I hit them ok, but I think I need something with a little wider sole. WOuld anyone have any suggestions on some good clubs that would fit my high handicap need? I have a very fast club head speed and am very athletic. Just can't seem to play golf too well

Also, are P2's very popular? Maybe I could find a partial trade for some new irons.

I'm partial to Adams Golf myself. I love my a2 irons. You're best option would be to go somewhere that you can try them out though and hit a number of different clubs until you find what's right for you.

I have never tested clubs before. Not sure around here where I could do that. Will most large retailers allow you to do that? Test the clubs, etc?

Golfsmith, Golf USA, Golf Galaxy, all major golf retailers.

We have a Golf Galaxy within 45 minutes. I will give it a shot. Any other suggestions besides Adams clubs? I don't want true Hybrids or anything like that, just some minor improvement irons.

Ping G10 series is good as well.

I have the ping i10's, got them for a good price otherwise I would of went with Adam's golf. There a great company with cutting edge technology.

And I'm partial to Tour Edge. They make quality goods at affordable prices. I would check out the Bazooka JMax or GeoMax irons and hybrid combo sets.

Buy some used Callaways or Pings. I would go used if you want to go inexpensive

Good idea there. Plus these brands usually hold their resale value quite well, if you buy them used.

You can go to like roger dunn or golfsmith to find good deals. I recently found a Titleist Vokey SM oil can at roget dunn for around $40 and it looked pretty good but i sold it on ebay and got $80!

I'd put an ad in the Marketplace section, see if anyone will trade with you. The P2's won't get much trade in at a retail store (other than maybe Golfsmith), but are popular on the forums. Maybe try to get something like Acer XPs or some other inexpensive component GI iron.

I would recommend what I have: Acer XP905 Hollow Core Wide Sole Iron.

They are like the Callaway x20 or the Ft-i. Actually, Callaway now has a FT-i Bird with appears to have the same construction (Ti face, perimeter weight and a damping material in the cavity). The Acer (via Hireko golf) is inexpensive ( $260 for 3-SW ) which is a bit less than Callaway's $1000-1300. Nice clubs, fairly forgiving. They are a little heavy headed, but you quickly adapt to it.

At less than the price of a brand name driver or putter, how can you go wrong.

Nike Slingshots are a decent game improvement iron. I recently got rid of a set that I had used for 5 years. They had a wide sole and were very forgiving. I couldn't hit a draw or a fade with these irons, they were just too straight.
