Just bought me a new putter. Scotty Cameron Newport 2 TeI3. I found it on Ebay for $100. I'm really excited, yet a bit nervous. Can I putt any better with it. I think I will really like the copper insert, b/c I like to be a bit more aggressive with my putts. Anyways really excited!!!!

You might putt better with it, but remember that its all on you. Practicing putting is going to do far more for you than buying some expensive putter.
The cup and the ball couldnt care less what brandname is on your putter.

The type of the putter can matter, center shafted or heel shafted, weight matters, looks matters mentally.

So you might putt better with one that more fits you or your stroke that way vs. some other putter.

But having a Cameron won't make you a better putter just because its a Cameron.

It could. Confidence plays a huge role in putting. If you are more confident with a Cameron than you are with some putter in your garage - you'll do better with the Cameron.

Also, when you mishit a putt, you'll have confidence that you have a nice putter. I bought a 30 dollar putter and a few times off the putter face it bounced and I had to re-think that if it were a nicer putter, like a Scotty Cameron, would it have bounced? Or was it me? Most likely it was me, but I would have no doubt that it was a bad stroke if it were a Cameron.

It likely still would have. Its a golf club, not a magic wand. The other day I played golf with a guy who had an Odyssey 2-ball putter. He had a pretty wristy putting stroke and the ball hopped every time he hit it.

Like I said, if you dont make a good stroke it isnt going to make a difference how much you spent on your putter, the result will be the same. Thats not to say that Camerons arent great putters (they obviously are), but spending $300 on a new Cameron isnt going to suddenly make you a great putter.

Yeah, but there is different technology in some putters though, better technology to get the ball on the ground quicker. I'm not doubting it's my stroke though. My long distance stroke could use some work for the lag putts. But, the YES! Sophia, ever since I have gone to that, it really does get the ball rolling quicker than my other one.

The only problem you will have with an Scotty Cameron putter is that you can not blame the putter anymore for your missed putts.

Whatever works. Good luck with it.

I just have an observation. The comments in response to your great deal from Ebay are from folks with double digit handicaps (addressing the pitfalls of the new club to a single digit handicap player). I am sure he can handle the club.

Having a putter that fits is huge.....elimate some variables.

I think some of the SC putters I've grown found off have great weight distribution and promote a smooth roll. I like the solid face....time for a change for me....away from the inserted faced Odysseys that I've used for years (Great....nay....awesome putters....I'm just ready for a change).

My father has the Teryllium insert on his Sante Fe model. Love the feel of that putter. The balls come off with a satisfying feel / sound. Very consistent.

If your new SC fits you well then my belief is that you'll hole more puts.

I think that having a good putter can help physicaly and mentaly. I just bought the ODYSSEY SABERTOOTH and not only is the technology and quality awesome, but the putter looks tough and makes me more aggressive. My putts have been way better.

Or you could blame the ball or the wind.

I have a tei3 and it's tough on lag putts on slow greens. If you putt quite agressively, it should be a good putter.

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
