I Am Not A Club Ho

But this was way too tempting to pass up. My MP57's are only 2 weeks old and I love them... but ... I just aquired a set of MP32's for only $265 in mint condition.

Do I have a problem... should I seek counseling?

This is a very dangerous disease among golfers. Once you have it in you, one extra set of irons is just the beginning.

Instead, I am just entering a sweepstakes for a Taylor Made r7 3-PW set as much as humanly possible.

I know the feeling. I've been looking at those mp-32's for a while now. I just started playing and this is my first year. I'm pretty sure I'm ready to upgrade to blades but I've only had this other set for 4 months. I pieced it together myself and it plays greatbut I just keep wanting new clubs. Let me know how those clubs feel. I'm debating between those mizunos or trying to find a used set of the nickent arc blades. I love the wedges and I hear great things about them. anyways, I'm addicted to looking for golf stuff.

How can people who just started playing be <20 handicap?

That is an honest question and I am not trying to be a turd or anything, I just want to know because I have been golfing since I was a teenager and I want to know if it just me not having the knack or if it is something else.

Did you start with lessons? Is it equipment? Do you just have the time and money to play often? Or did you just naturally take to it?

I am genuinely curious.

I started playing not long ago. I got a few lessons for grip, stance, and swing. Then I just started playing.. A LOT! I'm down from a 28ish in April to a 15ish now. Really, it was when my chipping and putting started coming along. I still spray drives and irons a bit, but I'm able to get out of trouble easier than before.

Good recovery is key IMO ... Everyone is going to hit errant shots, it's how you recover from those shots that helps you score ... chip and put well and that missed GIR is now a par instead of a bogey ...

Honestly, most people who have just started, and that state they are <20, simply aren't playing by the rules. They just don't know any better.

Furthermore... generally speaking, people above a 10 hdcp have no business playing a blade. I have never understood this. Sure, the clubs look sharp. But if you're an 18 hdcp, you cannot strike the ball consistently enough to get the benefits of using a muscleback iron. If it's all about "the looks", the player needs to check himself and his ego at the door, before he can get anywhere in this sport.

Well, I was introduced to golf at my school playing with an alumni and the diving coach. Our school has a short little 9 hole course that when the season came, I played at least 2 times a week until we had to leave school. Then over the summer, I played 18 holes about 3 times, each time shooting under an 85. I just posted a 13 handicap because 13 over is about what I shoot on an off day. The school course is easier and I've come back to it. The course is definitely easier as I don't have a need for any clubs but my driver and wedges and maybe my 4 ironwood to prep a better second shot. I learned really quick and my game from inside 120-130 is actually really good (I play 4 wedges). My putting probably hurts me a lot but playing more at school has improved it buttloads. My full swing has gotten really consistent since I've been swinging away in the basement this summer hitting into a net, learning trajectories, and seeing which way the ball ends up spinning. My drives need more attention but I do hit at least 50% of my fairways with a driver and it hits the ground usually around 270 but with the draw that I keep on it, it usually rolls at least 5 yards past the 280 mark. Yes, I am new to the game, but I am also a trained athlete and I am also a certified swim coach. I've got a pretty good understanding of athletics and how to use your body leverage for power. Golf has actually taught me an incredible amount of athletic control and got me aclimated to focus on using timing as a key athletic feature. Well, that's my story for why I'm a decent golfer my first year. That and I'm hooked and I've done my homework. Just love the game.

And this guy, c'mon. Don't be such a jerk. I play one ball, and I take my stroke when I lose it. I hole out. I don't even clean my ball or touch it until it's in the hole. my shot making consists of shaping my shots to obstacles and contour of the landing zone. Don't bash on me just because I have some good numbers. I love this game and I don't play for any other reason. Not to brag, not to pick up my confidence, but because it's fun.

That is just NOT True. I learned how to play using blades. That was years ago. I decided later on, that I wanted more forgiveness, but it sure did teach me how to play. It had nothing to do with ego pal. It was what was given to me. So it taught me about feedback and feel. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Dude, that's like saying that people learning to hit a baseball shouldn't use wooden bats during BP ... I would strictly disagree with that ... using a wooden bat to take BP teaches you to "square-up" the ball on the sweet spot consistantly (or you kill your hands, or you break bats ... it's that simple) ... I would say that it might be BETTER for someone to learn using blades as it teaches them to not "be lazy" and to "square-up" the golf ball where you are supposed to on the clubface ...

Your exactly right JC, I learned on very unforgiving clubs and I really think it has made me a much better golfer than people that play on very forgiving irons for years. I think the guy is just mad at golf because he sucks and nobody should be better than him.

Thanks ... that's always my theory when it comes to teaching sports ... teach how to do it PROPERLY THEN use the advantages of the equipment to make you that much better ...

10+ handicaps have no buisiness playing a blade is absolutley not true. When i got my new irons i had 775 cbs and i was a 16.6 at the beginning of the season. Then i got Titleist 695's, which are pure players irons. The result...more distance better control and a handicap that can't keep up with the lower numbers that im posting. There are certain cases where a blade is the fit for higher caps.
