Yesterday I went golfing on a course that I have played four time counting yesterday, the other 3 times I played it I shot a 83,85,85 not a overly hard course but not the easiest either has a 120 slope rating. We play 18 and it was not pretty for me shot a 93,loss of several balls of the tee box ran the score up pretty bad.Not having a good day I was ready to go after about hole 9 but toughed it out and played the back nine (and by the way it was no better.)My brother talked me into another 9 and feeling like I havent punished myself enough agreed to it.By the way it does not matter what I shoot I always have fun on the Golf course. So off we go and I end up shooting the best round for 9 hole that I ever have,I shot a 2 over par 37,2 under through 5 holes now thats a great feeling being under par.Now you tell me golf ain't a funny game..................I love it...

I know you had already played 18 holes but I don't know if I could have done that and not played the second nine of the second round! I think anything else going on would be trumped by a +2 on nine! Well, for me anyway. Congrats for your personal best.

Yea I just thought I would share and feel free to chime in with you guys's own little story.Yea I was on cloud 9 with a round like that.Smallville I just read your post and you are exactly right, and I wished I could have but it was a afternoon tee time and with playing the other 18 and with it getting dark earlier and earlier you know the rest of the story.Maybe could have gotten 3 more hole in so I just stopped while I was still ahead

I shot 51 38 once,... worst to first in the group,...
last year during a horrible round I got an ace on a great shot,.... then I jack 2 OB on the next hole and 3 putted for a 9,.... score card said 1 9 (I didn't frame it)
I had a 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,... all on the same score card, for 18 holes,...
crazy game,...

When I played high school golf we had a prize for anybody who shot 50+ in a match. It was named after a former player from decades before. Anyway, I always struggled on a certain course and my freshman year I made the varsity team and had to play it on a cold (upper 40's, lower 50's), windy (30+ mph gusts) and rainy day. The course in question is one of those long and tight ones with killer greens and a lot of sand and water. Anyway, I closed out the front 9 by missing a 4 footer for my 49. This was only my second or third varsity match so I was pretty devastated. To make things even worse, I qualified for the second group! To say that I was ticked with myself would be a major understatement. Something really kicked in though because I proceeded to close out the round with a 3 under par 32 on the back 9!

My 82 was the third or forth best round of the day (IIRC, a 78 took the match). That didn't mean that they let me off the hook for the 50 though. I was later humiliated by the seniors when they got to choose my wardrobe for school the next Friday.

I know the exact feeling. I had an interesting weekend for these types of scores.

Played two rounds on Friday. First round was 58 out, 48 in. Second round was 40 out 43 in (with a quad on 10, ugh ).

Just goes to show that it's a funny game sometimes.

Okay, two stories:
About 12 years ago, playing to a 12 handicap with my regular group, I shot a 46 on the front nine. I was pretty disgusted and told my guys I was going to skip the back, go home, and nap. They talked me into staying. I shot 33 on the back.

Second story. About 10 years ago I gave up the game. I returned this June, joined a club, and established an 18 handicap. I signed up for our club championship in August. The first day I played with 3 members I had never met. I three putted the 9th for a 37. These guys just knew I was a sandbagger. On the back nine I shot 48. We were friends then.

This actually just happened to me on Sunday ... I played 18 the first 9 I went by myself and played so poorly ... I think I came in at like +10

Then for 10 - 18 my Father and Brothers-in-law (first time one of the BIL had played ever) I played, what I think was my best round (we weren't keeping score, we were just playing) I know that I was sticking approach shots to
10' and one putting left and right ...

Isn't that the way it goes though ... *shrug* what ever ...
