Hello Everyone,
I just sold my R510TP with Fujikura 652 shaft so I need a new Driver . I played with the 905T for 9 holes with the Speeder shaft and it was really good to my suprise. I hit it long and straight. But I heard that the 905S is also a beast I wanted to find out your thoughts on it. My swing speed is 108-112.

Thanks!

So I tested a 905S today at the local range with a Speeder stiff shaft. I like the projectory actaully but the shaft sucks. It seems almost like an extra stiff. I know the weight is 73 grams and I'm use to 65 but the flex is way different from the flex I'm use to. Anyway, I like the head. the sound is does take a bit to get use to from my Taylormade but I'm hitting the 905S well. I'll look for a lighter shaft.

The generic answer -- get fitted. Launch monitor session, swing analysis... the works. Shaft flex and weight are only a part of the complete picture. Pretty sure the Fuji shaft doesn't suck, especially in conjunction with the 905S head. It all depends on your swing characteristics. From what I can tell, you weren't generating enough swing speed to properly unload the shaft. But I'm just a chop. So yeah... get fitted.

I have a 905S too. When I was

fitted this was the result:
The next driver was back in the S family and came with a Speeder shaft. Ball speed climbed to 150 because club speed climbed to 103, but my launch angle dropped to 9.3° and spin dropped to 3025. My carry and total distances were an even worse 229 and 248 yards. The Speeder shaft had done its job - they were attempting to drop the spin - but only at the expense of yardage.

In other words, though the head was great, the swing I was putting on it that day was resulting in horrible results with that particular shaft.

The shaft is probably 75% of the importance of a driver. The head is 20%. The ball and is the last 5%.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll check out the Titleist van when they roll by next time and get fitted. Would golfsmith tell me the same with their launch monitor? Anyone try them out?

Science Van was discontinued this year. Titleist's new focus is a complete-set fit through a program called "FittingWorks."

GolfSmith's launch monitor is unlikely to be of the same quality, and they aren't going to have 50+ variations of the 905R on hand, either. But any fitting is better than no fitting.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
