today my friend and I were stuck behind a fivesome eventually we asked them if we could play through, but it was ridiculous! the course was a par3 and we waited on each tee box for at least 8 minutes anybody else have an urge to rant?

ive never seen a fivesome play a par 3 course.. didnt know they even allowed it...

i dont like slow players as much as the next guy... but it gives me time to loosen up and go through my sequence before i tee off.. and im usually never in a hurry to finish, so i rarely complain about slow play unless the people in the front hit the ball 10 yards with every shot...

Why would you wait to ask a fivesome if you could play through? The moment I caught up to them I'd be asking, and if they didn't seem to want to let my group play through I'd have to insist. If they still refused I'd call the clubhouse and rat them out. Now if the course was crowded and there wasn't anywhere to go in front of them then I would't push to play through, but it's understood that slower groups should always let faster groups play through. It's been printed on every score card that I've read and I'm not above pointing that out to someone that is unduely slowing play down.

We were stuck behind a foursome that had to have been the slowest players I've ever seen. It was absolutely ridiculous and I'm usually a pretty patient guy. I mean, these fools were take 6 practice swings, lining up their putts, checking their lines, walking around the green, etc. I understand people want to do well but when it's a public course and people are waiting, be freakin considerate. I swear those guys thought they were on tour or something. I really wanted to drive a ball near them to get their asses moving.

The most basic rule is "keep up with the group in front of you". If someone in front of me is slow, and they aren't keeping up with the group in front (a gap is growing), I will *always* ask to play through - not just for me, but for the sake of the people behind me. One slow group can RUIN it for everyone (behind them).

There's a little sign up at my home course that says "Your position is directly behind the group in front of you, not directly in front of the group behind you", or something along those lines. I think it's a good rule to follow.

How about when the slow group is playing from the Blues! I came up behind a twosome and they teed off from the blues, the guy that was decent was not longer than me, and this course has several forced carries, 12 in all. He was barely clearing them and his pardner was dinking it 30 to 100 yards at a time. Luckly enough, the way the course is set up I can hop over to another hole and play my way back around. I'll give a group 2 holes to get their act together, sometimes they speed up or let me through, then I'll call the proshop. If the proshop won't come out (more common on city courses these days) I'll hop past them and come back and play that hole later.... jmoc

I'm OK with some groups playing a little slower, especially groups with kids learning how to play. I don't feel I want to rush them because I'll be doing that with my son someday, but they should let me play through. If they don't offer to let me play through, I jump ahead of them once they start lagging too far behind. They have no grounds for issue because one of the rules of our course is to let faster groups play through.

Sometimes there are 3 slow groups ahead of me, luckily I just skip ahead of all of them and replay the first 3 holes. There is no charge for replays on the course I usually play.
