There is always a decision to be made for the high handicapper that goes like this...."my ball is slicing/hooking so I need less side spin to keep the ball in play. But I'm missing a lot of greens so I'm trying to get up and down a lot. Greenside I need more spin." Another thing to consider is that more spin also equals more lift on both the driver and the irons so you get better carry distance if you can hit it straight.
I went the route of trying to hit straighter by focusing on a grip that could square the clubface naturally. Also I added a higher lofted driver. Between these two moves I was able to start playing spinner balls that would help me with the most important part of scoring, the short game.
