I joined Club Cameron "for the heck of it." My box of goodies is still sitting in a box in my office (I looked at them). I have no real interest in USING much of it (the hat I might wear), but this year was kind of a test balloon for me.

Recently, Scotty released 500 Irish (4-leaf clover) headcovers. I went and looked. I had no interest in buying, as I'm not Irish. Then someone posted to the realcameronfans mailing list and asked if anyone had an extra to sell. I offered to buy it for him if he'd pay the extra shipping I'd encounter shipping it to him. He PayPaled me $92, I bought the headcover ($72 + S&H;/tax).

Minutes later, they sold out. Now they sell for $250 to $300.

And yet, I don't feel bad here. I just got the headcover today. It's nice and all, but I'm not really a collector. It's an expensive hobby to get into, Cameron collecting, so I'll pass along the headcover to this fellow who will appreciate it. And he nabbed it for $92, all told - a pretty good deal.

To be perfectly honest, I entertained thoughts of not sending it to him, refunding his money, and selling it. But "entertained" is not the best word. More like "someone told me I should do that instead." The first thought that popped into my mind was "$200 ain't worth the goodwill and the hit to the integrity it'd cost me." Kinda makes me question how decent a person that suggested that to me is!

I wonder how frequently custom headcovers do come out. If there was one that spoke to me that I could use , I'd have no problem paying $72 for it.

Good move. Some people are ridiculous when it comes to collecting Cameron stuff. We all heard about that $25K or so putter...

I'd have no problem paying $72 + shipping for a headcover as long as it was something that hit me as unique or personally interesting.

Good job takin' the high road, Erik.

Just to be clear, I don't wish to be commended for doing the right thing. This thread isn't about patting myself - or getting anyone else - to pat me on the back. As Chris Rock said, "whatchoo want, a cookie?"

More just to say "cool headcover, but not for me" and to provide another reason why someone might want to join the club (access to headcovers without paying $300 being the primary reason here).

People the buy those covers, only to turn around 5min later to sell them for hundreds of dollars in profit make me sick. That's not what it's 'all about' for me...maybe for them...o-well.

I didn't even buy one. Not that I didn't think it was cool...just wasn't my cup-o-tea. I AM using a Hula-Girl headcover this year. I think they are pretty sweet.

BTW: It was 35K for that putter...but it was about as rare a putter as there is.

Love the Hula Girl headcover! If I ever go back to Cameron (and there is a Newport 1.5 calling my name faintly in the distance), I'll have to find one of those. But not for $300. I'd use it ... right alongside my moose driver cover.

hey, you know your other cameron putter u don't use, are you willing to sell it, the one with the pro platinum finish.

The one we used for the article? I'd sell it for the right price, but I doubt you'll get close to that price.

I really want that cover. I had no idea that these things go for that much money. I thought $72 was a lot. I didnt realize it was a limited thing and was definitely disappointed when I found out I'd have to pay $300 for a headcover. That certainly isnt happening.

Im a super nice guy too (though you wouldnt know iit from all the ink) I would have went through with the deal as well. I just dont have the underhandedness in me

I have a really nice Cameron headcover that came with my Pebble Beach one, though I never keep it on the putter. Im afraid if someone walks by and sees a special edition Scotty headcover they will just snag my putter so I ussually just keep a generic cover on it. That being said Im an idiot for gaming it in the first place.

As I am a new cameron owner thanks to Erik I have considered joining the club as I want to get a couple of headcovers. Anyone know how often headcovers are offered to club members throughout the year?

    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.
