I finally received my Launchpad today and I must say that I'm quite pleased. First, setup was very easy. It was basically plug and play and the simulator itself is very sturdy. The quality looks to be good as well. The longest part was installing the game onto my computer and I was off playing.

The system came with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 05 for the PC. Overall gameplay was very good. This thing worked almost exactly to the simulators at the golf store, but smaller. I tried all different shot shapes and the sensors read it perfectly. I hit draws, fades, punches, hooks, etc. It was pretty sweet to see that happen on TW. So the sensors on the system were legit but we'll see how it goes against the test of time.

Also, Electricspin provides a virtual driving range which can be downloaded from their website. I got that as well and it worked quite well. It recorded swing speed, swing path, ball speed, ball spin, etc. It also gave nice graphs of the distances and such.

This was a quick review but I'll keep updating as I play some more. My first impressions were very good and I'm enjoying this right now. I'm thinking of setting it up with a big projector and make it a full out simulation. Sweet! $100 for this thing was a steal and I'm very happy with the purchase.

Awesome! Mine is supposed to get here this week, but the seller was really sketchy, so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.

Where did you get one of these for $100? I'd take one at that price.

I'm mainly interested in things like swing speed, swing path, etc. The type of analysis that can help groove a good swing during the cold winter. How consistent is Launchpad in this respect?

Just a little update: Had a party earlier this evening and we played a round of golf! It was awesome. Everyone was having fun, even the noobies!

Oh and I got it off Ebay for $100. It was a best offer thing and I said what the heck and just offer $100. The guy accepted it! It's actually a store in Buena Park CA. The store is Samy's Discount or something like it.

Thanks for the info. I submitted an offer of $100 as well, he countered w/$115 and I countered at $106 ($125 shipped). That offer was accepted so mine is on the way!

FYI, if you're interested the Sammy's Store guy on eBay will take $90. I just ordered one. Plus eBay has 10% off on PayPal items. Ended up being $100 shipped.

I'm pretty interested in one of these... now. But I just have a question, it's probably a stupid question, but where do you swing the clubs?

Go here ->

http://www.electricspin.com/ That should answer most of your questions.

One cool aspect I read on their website. You don't have to use the tethered ball. You can use a real ball and hit into a net or even take it to the range. Assuming you have a laptop. That's pretty neat. You should be able to get some good ideas on how accurate it is.

Hooray! My wife just called me at work and let me know my Launchpad just arrived! I was afraid that the seller was going to flake on me since I won it at a ridiculously low price ($52 + $15 shipping). Ebay lesson: never have an auction ending on Monday morning, especially without a reserve. Even better was that I had a 10% off coupon from Ebay so it was actually $62 total.

kfowler, the fact that this could be used without using the tethered ball was a big selling point for me. My garage is right below my 3yr old's bedroom, so having to use a "regulation" golf ball would make too much noise. I'm planning on using nerf or wiffle balls hit into a net, or against a screen if I get a projector set up.

Wow great price. Let me know how you like it.

I have a practice net setup in my garage. I hit regular balls into it including my driver. This we'll be fun to set the laptop up out there and see how it does.

I'm thinking we need to set up the 1st annual Sandtrap.com Launchpad Golf Tournament. We could do it near the beginning of the regular season, maybe April 1...

Maybe I missed it, but would one of you mind posting your impression of how well it works once you've played with it for a while. Inquiring minds want to know (preferably before X-Mas!).

I don't think anyone here has had one long enough to have a long term opinion. In fact I think only Tonyy (the OP) has actually received and used his, and he's only had it for a week.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
