Should I get fitted for a driver?

I was playing the other day and I was having some difficulty with the driver. When my playing partner watched me, he said my Regular shaft was flexing too much. In addition, because I am strong, he noticed my shaft weight was too light (50g). He recommended a stiffer, heavier shaft.

I had my swing speed tested on a radar and on average it was around only 95 to 97 mph, which I thought was slow.

Should I take the advice and switch my driver to the specs he recommended? OR should I just go to a club fitter and get my swing analyzed?

I'd go to the club fitter if you're worried about having the wrong driver shaft. If you're using the right shaft it'll save you a lot of money over buying a new driving and finding out it's not helping. On the other hand, if you are using the wrong shaft then you'll know for sure that what you replace it with is right for you. Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

I would switch. I would recommend a stiffer lightweight shaft. Something with less torque could help you to reduce shaft twisting.

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

Take the guesswork out of it and get a professional fitting. You're current driver might be find or might be with the correct shaft. Shaft flex is a relative term as there isn't actually a standard in the shaft industry. What is stiff in one brand might be a regular in another. Torque, kick point and the driver head itself all enter into the equation making it nearly impossible for someone to say they need a shaft of particular flex. Find a fitter who can put you on a launch monitor (cost is usually less than $50 for fitting). If you get fit and find what you have is not even close to correct for you, either have it reshafted (cost could be $50 to $200+ depending on brand and model of shaft) or buy a new driver (a lot of fitters will credit purchase with the cost of fitting). It's all about finding what best fits you and your swing and what you're going to feel good about.

Yup...low torque but still retain a nice flex in the tip will allow you to hit straight shots that get up in the air nicely. My swingspeed is in your range and I love my current shaft V2 HL stiff....I believe it's only a 63 grm shaft. It has plenty of whip but yet low torque. Very happy with it.

Lot's of great choices out there. A good clubfitter or store tech can help you narrow it down. I'm cautious in that I don't want to go too stiff ever again...
