What's the biggest difference? Which do you prefer? Which would you recommend?

I prefer steel. However I have an 85 gram Fujikara TP rombax graphite shaft in my Taylormade Rescue TP 19 degree hybrid. A heavier graphite shaft is perfect for a hybrid. It keeps the ball from balooning and is easier to control the trajectory

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

Part of the trade-off is just what you are ocmfortable with. But part is a function of what you need out of the clubs.

I play 3 hybrids (sometimes just 2) with steel shafts as I like them to feel like 'better long irons' and I play steel in my irons. But I am not getting the distance that I need out of the hybrid 3i so am experimenting with a longer graphite shaft for that club.

I can not stand the look of a steel shaft on a hybrid, it reminds of my starter set. Besides the looks steel really lowers the ball flight which might be benificial to the super fast swingers, but it deffinatel is not for me.

I carry 3 hybrids (2, 4 and 5). I have graphite in the 4H and 5H (the Mizuno Exsar), but steel in the 2H (Dynamic Gold SL). The 2 hybrid (and my 3 wood) are the longest clubs outside my driver and I feel like I can control them more with steel, but not lose much distance (my 2H plays close to the same distance as the 3H of same model with graphite). They are also the 2 clubs I regularly swing the hardest with and I just feel the steel leaves less to chance.

When it comes right down to it, though, I think it's more about what you like and what you'll feel most comfortable with. Both steel and graphite each have their advantages, but the difference is less these days than it used to be.

personally i prefer the graphite shaft in my hybrid, because i swing my hybrid like a wood more than an iron. the graphite shaft needs to be heavy or else the weight of the head will mess with the flex on the shaft. i have tried several steel shafts, my original hybrid was steel and i loved it because i swung it like an iron. personally i prefer the graphite because i find its easier to swing a hyrbid like a wood more so than an iron. bottom line it depends on how you choose to swing the hybrid.

I don't like steel in anything anymore.

Right now, it's only in my putter, but I've got hickory shafted putters that feel better--they just don't putt especially well.

Regular or senior flex graphite actually feels a lot like hickory in a way--a little torquey, perhaps, but good sense of the clubhead at all times.

Right now, even if I had the swingspeed of a younger man and even if I played blades, I'd probably go with something like the Aldila NV Tour 130.
I just don't like the feel of steel anymore--but that's me.

Iv never really tried steel in a hybrid but because of my SS graphite is probably better for me but irons are a different story

I am going to build a 21* hybrid with a steel shaft. I calculated the total weight of the replacement 3-iron head and total club and match it to the hybrid. I am also going to make it to the same length too. I am not going to permanently do it, but am going to experiment with the weight of the club. Graphite went too far for me in a 21* hybrid. Going to make it with the same shaft as in my irons. Hopefully it will go the same distance as the 3-iron it is going to replace.

From a fairway lie, my 3 and 4 irons go just about the same distance as my 5 iron, only with a bit less carry and more roll. That's why they're in one of my old bags in the basement!
