Write one sentence that describes a swing thought that works for the long game full swing. Not all swing thoughts work for everyone, but write something that has really helped your game, one of those aha! moments. Explain if you feel like it.

Complete the follow through ---I stole this from G. Player (he has the best one liner tips) I tried this and it works. There is WAY too much emphasis on the backswing (probably started with Hogan--who I admire greatly-- and has continued). If you simply think to yourself, complete the follow through, you subconsciously complete the backswing and make a nice, even tempo swing.

the simple swing thoughts that help me with my golf swing are:

1) keeping my left arm straight
help me shorten my backswing and make solid contact and hit the ball accurately and farther
2) tilt my rear shoulder lower along with the straight left arm works great
3) backswing take away is natural. This is harder to explain but if you were wearing a hula hoop around your body and your back swing would follow the bath of the hula hoop so that you weight is never swaying. You can test this out by chipping with a 3 iron and if your take away is just right you will hit solid chips with your 3 irons.
4) proper grip and grip pressure, neutral and light pressure

Here's another one (stolen from H. Penick) Take dead aim I interpret this to mean both the ball (initial target) and the middle of faiway/middle of green/flag (ultimate target). Aim at ultimate target and visualize (I do this standing 8 or so yards behind the ball, then deep breaths, walk up to ball, align clubface to ultimate target (factoring wind and anticipated trajectory), waggles, then aim for one dimple on the back of the ball. Then strike the ball, completing the follow-through.

Mine are:

Relax! and Don't do anything stupid ... Dummy!

or

You know how to hit the ball... DON'T F#CK UP!

being overly self critical in a way that I can laugh at myself gets me out of my own head so that I can make a decent golf swing. Also, it lets me clear out other thoughts and attempt to get in that pure concentration thoughtless state.

After four years I concluded that swing thoughts don't work because my subconscious actually swings the club. So I started watching slo-mo Hogan videos from every angle mimicking it on the practice tee until it became engrained into my subconscious.

Practice chipping with your 7,6,5, 4, 3 iron and focus on your take away and only take your backswing only 3 - 4 feet and practice your backswing and follow through with your wrist comming through naturally, this drill will help you practice your take away and start of your follow through and you can see the direction of the ball, whether you are pulling or fading, practice until you make crisp contact and hitting the ball straight every time. Then used the same take away to hit your irons and this drill may help me make solid crisp contact with my full swing and hit it straighter.

Here is the swing thought for everyone, no matter what his or her handicap is: When asked what he thought about when he did his golf swing in a tournament, under pressure, Samuel Jackson Snead asked for a microphone to be put on his shirt collar. He then did his swing with his driver and said out loud, "One, two, three". "That is all that I worry about ----rhythm and smoothness. One, two, three." If you have some concept of what to do, the key is to swing with rhythm and balance. "One, two, three".

Tin Cup's swing thought was "Dollar Bills", I use it some times...

But I have to say, the BEST single swing tought I have that works time after time is:

"Swing Like a Girl"....

This in NO WAY is a knock against women, I think MANY men would learn a LOT from watching the women play golf on TV or in person!

Women (for the most part) do not have that "Pee Pee Envy" thing that we men have (about EVERYTHING!)....

I find that I hit my longest and best shots when I DO NOT try to KILL the ball!

Help your game... watch a girl play golf!!!

No matter how slow you think your take away is make a consious effort to take it back even slower till you feel your full coil at the top.

That simple swing thought makes a huge difference with the long irons.

Slightly open the face at address. Waggle nervously.

Think balance and staying inside on the backswing. KEEP LEFT HEEL DOWN FLAT! This let's your lack of flexibility keep your swing compact and keep you in balance.

Pull the butt end of the grip straight at the ball...hard. The clubhead comes down on its own.

Follow through fully--leaves me arched slightly forward as if at the end of a 1920s hickory shaft swing instead of nice and straight as after a modern upright swing. No reverse pivot this way.

Yell at the mf-ing ball to stop hooking. Decide if this is the day to take a wedge to your buddy's head for calling you "Captain Hook" for the four millionth time.

    • Why should SuperSpeed get 3x of Stack's profits? I get the part about SuperSpeed wanting damages sustained as a result of Stack, but I don't get why SuperSpeed feels that they're entitled to both Stack's profits and damages.   Does anyone know/think SuperSpeed actually has a case here?

Stack System’s marketing materials inflate apparent swing speed and distance gains through selective presentment of data without qualification that purported gains are not the result, in whole or part, of its training protocol and products. * Yes, I'm joking about abbreviating both "SS." SuperSpeed wants: A judgment that the Stack System has disseminated false and/or misleading information in violation of federal and Illinois law. The deletion of all false advertising distributed and recall of all packaging containing false advertising and a requirement that Stack System issue notices (written or otherwise) to that effect to all current distributors and retailers of its products and all distributors with whom Stack System has done business in the past eighteen months. Written confirmation within 30 days of an injunction detailing the manner and form in which Stack System has complied. An order that Stack System disseminate corrective advertising informing consumers, the trade, and the public of Stack System’s unlawful conduct. 3X all profits received by Stack System as a result of its unlawful actions. 3X all damages sustained by SuperSpeed (as a result of Stack System’s actions) The cost of the action All reasonable attorney fees All other relief to which SuperSpeed are entitled and such other or additional relief as just and proper. Oy.
    • I'm not doing this for the hundred and twentieth time. Sorry in advance, but you get the massively abridged version. Those guys also benefited from the weaker/shallower fields. Also, Watson's career doesn't overlap with Jack's like many think it did. Tom is nearly a decade younger. Jack won only like four majors only after Tom won his first. And Tom won more British Opens than he did all three of the other majors combined, as it was his specialty (not Jack's). Arnie's career similarly doesn't overlap Jack's as much as many think.   Jack would also tell you Tiger was the better golfer.
