Personally, I prefer them to Nick Faldo and Kelly Tilghman any day of the week. They are very professional, make good analyses of the play on the course, and make a very compatible team. I do NOT use the mute button when I watch an LPGA event like today's SBS Open at Turtle Bay (but I do use it when Nick and Kelly are doing a PGA Tour event). They also "let the action speak for itself".

yea im right there with you. dottie pepper and brian hammons are good announcers. they don't talk too much, like they let the person putt/hit before they start talking again just like they are out there on the course. With Nick Faldo and Kelly, they talk right through the swings and everything, and they talk about off topic things. Nick talks about his crazy nights, and then will go into a high detailed observation on someone's swing and its like "whoa!, what's he talking about?". With Brian and Dottie, they stay on topic of golf most all of the time, and talk about past events, give backgrounds, and provide analysis on people. They really get you into the feel of the people and the tournament that is going on, which is why they are good announcers.

Yep... A good combo. Dottie Pepper &judy; Rankin are among my favorite announcers for the LPGA - actually - any tour. And Hammons does a good job as well. The high priced duo doesn't do nearly as good a job!

I agree. No silly comments like we have with Faldo and Kelly. It's funny when you think about it. We have good announcers for women's golf, good ones on the European Tour, good ones for the Nationwide Tour yet the TGC will put on Kelly and Faldo for the biggest tour. Amazing.

I really think with the new GC and LPGA deal the GC should make these two, in fact the whole broadcast crew permanent for all of the future LPGA events. The PGA broadcast should be run as an open audition, and let the current staff do someting else. Maybe they could all go golfing with McCord and then have someone steal his GPS that way they could be lost somewhere in North America and the golf course is over that way somewhere.

I like them.

I also enjoy listening to Faldo. He goes astray once in awhile, i.e., the dumb thing he did with the wines with Palmer fell flat at the Hope, but can't win 'em all. He has some good insights.

Kelly is doing much better, in my opinion.

Actually, the person the world could use more of whenever he's available is "Oosty" --- he does a great job.

a bit dull IMO.

You know what perplexes me? Your opinion and the others expressed in the posts on this thread indicate overwhelmingly that golf fans do not like Kelly, and yet she keeps her job. With most networks, if a key broadcaster hurts ratings, he or she is quickly yanked "off stage". I have many reservations about the the quality of management at The Golf Channel, and this situation is one of them.

We're not the entire market. Not only are we a smaller portion of the intended market, but the complainers and whiners always talk more than those who are okay with things.

You are right about that. I wonder what the rest of the market thinks of Kelly and Nick vs Brian and Dottie?

Gary McCord. And I agree with you.

He made fun of Oosty's bird-watching hobby at the Buick. You could tell Oosty was angry because he tried to ignore McCord. As for Hammons and Pepper, they are very good commentators although I really don't mind Faldo and Tilghman.

    • Back in my Army days a "gooch" was a particular part of the anatomy. Example, say Okeechobee is the b-hole of Florida, then Belle Glade would be the gooch. Seems he wears his name well.
    • I can't say that I remember a lot of individual putts, but I do have one specific memory.  The first time I played the Old Course, I had hit a pretty good drive on the 6th hole.  I had about 60 yards left, and due to the swale in front of the green, there was no chance of flying a wedge on or near the green and having it stop on the green.  My caddie recommended either a running 7-iron chip or a putt, and I took the putter and a pretty hard swing.  The ball rolled over humps and through hollows, disappeared into the swale in front of the green, and re-appeared heading right at the hole.  I ended up maybe 12 feet away.  The caddie turned and held out his hand to shake mine, and said "Now THAT was a golf shot!"
    • For the first time since 2021, I made a 3 on the 12th at Stoneleigh.    395 yards, something like 80 feet uphill, I hit a solid drive and a 7-wood to inside a foot.  Even I couldn't miss that one.  I feel like I haven't played a lot of golf this year, but I'm making decent progress.
