Anyone know how to keep my new shoes from getting that worn out, cracked look by the toes after some moderate use?

applying some protectant and conditioner every once in a while will help... something like mink oil or otherwise.

Conditioner or regular shoe polish will help, but at least for me, it's all about the shoes themselves. I wear dry joys and they're darn near bullet proof. I just wipe them down after a round if they get wet. I prob get close to 200 rounds out of a pair......or a good 3 years. Of course, that's mostly riding, rather than walking, so YMMV.

Besides just taking good care of them (cleaning them and using some sort of leather conditioner on them occasionally) it's a good idea to have multiple pairs - especially if you play quite a bit. Having multiple pairs gives a pair time to dry out while still allowing you to play again. A problem with shoes getting worn is that people do not allow them to dry sufficiently after playing, then wear then the next day. That takes a toll on them. You should always let them dry out in a cool, airy place (not buried in your trunk or, even worse, in your golf bag). They should really be allowed to dry and air out for a day or so before being worn again. I always have 2 pairs (at least) and try to never wear the same pair back-to-back rounds, especially if the conditions were wet or particularly hot.

I also believe that shoes lose their stability control after awhile. That is...after the first set of soft spikes get worn out....the shoe isn't as stable...which means that the golfer's stability is lessen.

There is a lot of torque happening with a swing...and the lateral stability goes. After awhile....my shoes get downgraded to non-playing-round practice range shoes. However...I do agree to rotate shoes and to care as indicated above.

I use shoe trees and they seem to help a little with the use of polish and/or protectant.

I rotate 'em out just like PiKapp said.

I just remove them after the round and knock 'em together to get the grass cleared out of the spikes and wipe them down with my golf towel and throw 'em inside the cargo holder mounted in the bed of the truck to air out on the trip home.

From there they go into the golf closet with the clubs when I get home.

Black will hold up better than white especially around the top crease where the white tends to break down quickly. Be careful when cleaning, use a softer brush than you think is necesary to keep this cracking down also and keep a good polish on them. Remember that a hot trunk will kill shoes quicker than anything. Shoe trees will help maintain shape - cedar is the best, stay away from plastic. The cedar will absorb some of the moisture, where plastic will trap it inside the shoe. If you really want to keep them in A1 condition, you need to clean them after every round. A tedious chore but when shoes typically sell for over $100 it is worth the time. good luck.
