I'm looking for a new driver that is proven for more yards. I hit it pretty long already, but I don't feel I have the right driver for me. I have a 3 year old Mizuno, "off the shelf", with a stiff shaft. It's a 9.5 degree, and I hit it too high. My carry is 280+. Swing speed is not really that high, and technique is not good either. Play to a 7, but should be much lower (can't putt...lol).

What's the latest greatest, and any suggestions on shaft based on above comments. I don't want to have to swing out of my shoes with too stiff a shaft, but I want one that's suited for me.

My advice would be to get custom fitted by a professional. We could all tell you what we swing but nobody would really know the dynamics of your swing. An off the shelf driver may fit your swing just fine but you wont know for sure unless you were to get fitted.

Good advice. I just don't want to spend a ton of money getting my specs, then the "hard sell" by them to get some "custom" driver for $500. Not interested. Maybe should stay with my driver as I hit it plenty far for most of the courses I play.

Thanks!

FWIW In the places I've checked in my area it is maybe $50 for a driver fitting, and they will usually credit that towards a purchase.

I can handle that! How's life in wet Oregon? I'm originally from OR, but moved to AZ 9 years ago and haven't looked back :)

Finally starting to dry out. I don't mind much though, the courses are empty in winter. I couldn't take the heat in AZ, that's for sure. I would probably get heat stroke at 7am!

I have been to a couple of the Golfsmith stores in the Scottsdale area (I am from AZ, stationed in Monterey). They will fit you for free, look at all the information (including your budget) and show you the options. I looked at the Callaway FT-iQ while there. It was the most expensive club I was looking at. Based on the information collected, it removed because it wasn't the best for my needs. Just my experience in dealing with them.

Too funny

. 100 in AZ is like 85 in OR. You got that muggy, moist, thick air

Check out the Adams Speedline! It was designed in a wind tunnel to make it as aerodynamic as possible. Apparently it can add 5-15 yards to an average swinger.
And, its comes in a 8.5 loft as well....

Go get on a launch monitor with a KNOWLEDGABLE tech. IMO, only pay attention to you club head speed, launch angle and possibly the ball speed. If the tech is knowledgable he will direct you to the correct loft and what type of kicking shaft, (low, mid or high kicking) is best for your swing.

In order to hit 280+ you have significant club head speed, like around 107-110

I did that last week

My current driver was way wrong. Shaft too flexible. The head was not stable enough. I got a driver more suited for me within my budget. Ping Rapture (although I wanted the new V2). Fujikura x stiff, 1 inch tipped shaft. It's only 44 3/4 for better accuracy. Played with it yesterday. Not bad. I'm not hitting it any longer at the moment, but it is going straighter Thanks, Mike

I did a lot of asking around and trying different sticks before zeroing in on the G10.

It's a fine stick for a good price. Custom fitting is no extra and they can have your stick in no time. My guess is you would benifit from the ProLaunch shaft they offer as an option. I went with the V2 High Launch and it's worked well.

Don't buy a stick without at least giving the G10 some range time....most of the places will let you check one out for a few hours and then hit a local range.

Even being custom fit to your specs and your choice amound the shaft options you are gonna be right at or under $300....a lot of money...but less than a number of sticks on the market that wind up selling for 1/2 price 6 months later.

Surprisingly, it's not as expensive as you may think. I'll explain my process to get my custom fitted irons. Basically, I went to a fitter and get fitted for the irons. (duh) All I had to pay for was the actual fitting, which was 40$. Then I took my "coordinates" to my local golf store and they sent for the irons. I only had to pay extra for the shipping. So unless you're really tight budget, you can get a normal off the shelf driver price plus a good 60 bucks or so. It is more than worth it. GOOD LUCK!
