Are you a short hitter who can handle his own with the big hitters? I play with big hitters who get past me by 30 yards at least. So I had to come up with a plan to even things up and got serious with the fairway woods. I also worked super hard on the short game as well. I am now a better player bacause I had to get better to keep up. Anyone else had to come up with a game plan to keep up????

the short game equalizes everything

hmm. not really =/. I average 290 yards but I get where you are coming from here. If you can get it on the green in the same amount of shot as the longer hitter, than you are doing just fine. Just keep working on the accuracy portion of your game which is the most important part. Get to know your swing, what works, what doesn't, and get comfortable with your shot style (fade, draw, etc...).

once you have that ironed out, try shaping shots. Try hitting a hook or a slice. This is how you become a good player. Good luck!.

There's always someone out there longer. As long as you can play any club in your bag there's really nothing to worry about. I've learned to play how I can and not think about "the other guy". He's not thinking about me. Or he shouldn't be.

But, it is nice to hear that you're working to improve. With improvement comes confidence, and from confidence comes length. If one feels they need to rely on it.

Having been on both ends of the stick in tournament rounds, it's definately more intimidating to be the longer hitter that's constantly 30 yards past the other guy, hitting 7 iron into the green when he's hitting a 4 iron, only to tie the hole.

On the other hand, if you're the shorter hitter, you know what to expect, and can live with that. Just make sure you get your approach shots on the green first, to put a little pressure on the other guy and force him to make his shot.

That's how I see things.

I actually like being the shortest hitter in the group. It is to my advantage to hit it close first. It really bugs the long knocks to hit is so far and not be able to get it closer than anyone else. On top of that, if you are making birdies and pars and drive for show guy can't score, you know he has to be boiling mad inside. After all, should he be able to tear the course a new one since he hits it so far? The farther they hit it, the more I want to gamble.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

I have to agree with Ben on this one ... play YOUR GAME AGAINST THE COURSE and don't worry about the other guy as much as you possibly can ...

My club is full of old old guys who always tell me "wow, nice drive - you young guys hit it a TON!" and then proceed to kick my ass up and down the course with their dinky-doo senior shaft powered play.

Old guy: Drive, 3-wood, iron to green, putt.

Me: Drive, iron to sand, chip to rough, putt, putt.

Old guy: "Nice drive!"

Me: "Nice Par!"

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
