Ok,

So I am still playing with Wilson FatShaft II. I have a 10 handicap, and would say that my clubs are no longer keeping up with my game. I've had these things FOREVER.

I have hit quite a few clubs, even bought a set of TM R7's, but returned them after 2 rounds. They offered nothing that my old ones did except better groves, still felt crappy.

I've never been fit for a set of clubs always just played standard. I hit some mizuno MP60's and loved them. They feel great. Every person I've talked to say if you want the best feel go with mizuno. So I've done alot of research and the Mp57 seem to fit me the best. Problem is theres no one around me that stocks them so I cant hit them, they will order them for me if i buy them. In lies the other problem, cheapest anyone will get them to me is for $900 give or take.

I've found new ones online for 600ish. So my question basically is how important is it to have them custom fit? And am I stupid, thinking about buying clubs I've never hit?

Why don't you call Hot Stix? It's possible that they have an affiliate near you where you can go and get fitted.

It's not crazy to purchase clubs that you've never hit before. It is crazy to do so when they are going to cost you some serious dough, though. Have you tried ebay? You might be able to find them at a considerably lesser price.

I have had the Mizuno MP32s for a while now. I bought them from one of the online stores, TGW or Golfsmith, and they were used. They had been hit very little and looked brand new when I got them. I think I paid 300 for them and they have been fine every since. I would look for something like this if you are afraid to pay the 900 without being fit.

i too am around the 10 handicap mark. i went with mizuno mp52 last year. i demo the 57, 52, 60, 62. as well as srixon, titleist too.

52 was the best imo. super forgiving and as much shot shaping ability as the 60 and 57.

dont pay full price. talk to a pro at a golf shop that you frequent. i had a pro order mine for cost. and def. get fitted. i found out im 2* flat and it made a world of difference.

IMO, it is important to get fit. But often this is something that you can do after you already have your irons. So long as you don't need longer-than-normal shafts (hard to add lengths to shafts), the clubs can always be altered to adjust lie angles, lofts, or different sized grips.

Depending on what resources are available in your area, you could always buy the clubs new, used, whatever... then get some professional analysis and alter the clubs if need be.

Go to the Mizuno Website and see if there is a fitting / demo day coming up in your area. I know we have one on Sat. but I had already driven 2hrs to attend one. I knew I wanted the 52's, just needed to know the shaft/length/lie/grip adjustments to order. I got to hit everything they sell, including the 52 on every shaft. It made a world of difference!

Then I ordered my set off ebay from Waveland Golf. Brand new, set of 7 (the clubs I needed) for $685 shipped. I got the MP Fli Hi 3 and 4 with upgraded grips (Golf Pride Multicompound Red Round). They have a sets at:

6 for $555
7 for $640
8 for $730

Also,

check Mizuno's website for a demo day. this will give you the option to try all of the club heads with different shafts and it is free. Also, Mizuno will allow you to order custom sets, in that you can blend different sets together for a more forgiving long iron, but a more playable short iron.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

They have a demo day here, but its at a Golf Store, soo it will be hitting off of mats (which I hate) I have a fairly steep impact so mats mess me up.

A guy I know, sister used to work for mizuno, said he can get me any iron with Project X 6.0 for 90 a club. So I could even Go with 57 or 52's in my long irons and get 67's in my 7-PW. I dont know Im so lost.

I know I dont want to play a Blade in my 3/4 irons, 5/6 are questionable. 7-PW blades would be fine.

Even at a golf store you will get a proper fit from the Mizuno Rep. Worse case is that you don't hit them off the mats that well, but still like how they feel. It's a fitting/demo day....not like the rep is gonna charge you for the club due to mat damage! lol

The place where the Mizuno demo day is a hotstyx facility. I just cant stand the owner, hes an idiot. I went to go look at clubs there he fit me by standing next to me "see were about the same, just use a standard club" The PGA pro at my local Dicks SG spent more time with me, fitting a glove...

Nice! Yeah, not a fan of the "stand and guess" fitting system either.

Going back to the mats, I hate them too. When there is no other choice, at least you get an idea of how the club feels swing and hitting the ball...not the mat.

you might to bring your current clubs to compare feel. Since the matt will give you a bad taste, if you know what to expect you can compare the difference. good luck on your hunt. Buying new golf clubs is always fun.
