Srixon makes the i701 irons, they are a forged cavity back with an undercut channel behind the face that positions the center of gravity lower and further back for higher launch and more forgiveness. They are forged for a soft feel and you can play into them pretty nicely. Henrik Stenson played them for a while, recently switching back to his older i506 irons. The bonus is that you can pick up a set on eBay for under $400.

In my Srixon staff bag:

+1

you can get a set of irons custom built to your needs for right around $200. You can also order just the irons that you want.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Bridgestone GC OS can be bought on Ebay BRAND NEW for under $200. also, there is a BRAND NEW set of Maxfli Revlutions on Ebay right now for $135. those are one of the best irons ever made and definitely one of the softest feeling

I've heard that only "older" individuals use graphite (late 50s). I prefer steel shafts (I've used graphite before) and I'm young.

you've heard wrong. todays graphite shafts have come a LONG way performance-wise.

also, i dont think anyone in this thread has suggested graphite shafts anyways

You have heard wrong. A shaft designer can do alot more with graphite. They can change kick points, torque, etc. WHile a quality Steel shaft can be resonably priced. (A True Temper Dynamic Gold can be had for around $10~$12) A quality graphite shaft will easily be double that or more. Cheap grapite shafts exist, but they are well. Cheap.

I picked up my Ping i/3 O-Size irons for less than $250. They were mint, with 2-3 of the clubs never been hit. Great super game improvement irons. New G5s are going for less than $400.

Look around, you can find some great deals if you have a little patience.

USED Ping Eye 2's

I would second that. They have stood the test of time. Good feel, workability, and forgiveness. And dirt cheap to boot.

TaylorMade RAC OS2 Irons, I believe they were orginally offered in 2005, they are really excellent clubs, nice feel, good forgivness. They are getting harder to find new, but if you can locate a set you can usually get them for a sweet price.

I just got a new set of Adams A3 irons for $299 at Golf Galaxy. I have been an Adams fan for awhile now, I replaced my GT2 undercuts with these. I also have an RPM 3W.

They hit nice - straight and far. You can get them a little cheaper than this on ebay. But, I wanted instant gratification and also wanted to hit them first. The A3 OS were pretty nice too but the ball ballooned a bit too much for my liking and they were a few hundred more. These too though you can get on ebay for around $300. Had I liked the A3 OS more I would have bought them on ebay.

Consider clone clubs, as well. Pinemeadow and GigaGolf are often highly recommended. You can get Ping G10, TaylorMade R7, and Callaway X-22 clone iron sets for $150 or so.
