no matter what putter I'm practicing with. The ball just seems to skid right off the face and I can hear it skid for the first 10 feet.

Why would this happen?

Is it from the way I'm striking the putt? What do I need to work on for this to stop?

It's happening with my blade, mallet, and flange style putters so obvioulsy I'm doing something wrong here.

A few thoughts.

First off, the ball will naturally skid a bit coming off the putter face. Even putters with their minimal loft impart backspin. That said, you want the ball to begin rolling as soon as possible. You may be doing one of two things: imparting too much backspin or hitting down on the ball a bit too much. Experiment with ball position, both forward and backward in your stance. If you have an unusual move with your wrists that adds or reduces loft, play with doing less of that move (a forward press may be a culprit). You want to hit up on the ball or catch it at the flat spot of your stroke with a relatively flat putter face. You're doing something that's producing a different strike.
