Re: Pens Win.

that last save by fleury was clutch!! but i felt like the half of the second period and the whole 3rd period was a detroit power play. LOL. penguins could NOT get it out of their zone! either way...still won!!

Re: Pens Win.

What a nailbiter ending! Yikes!

Halfway through the season I didn't think they'd be anywhere near the cup!

Always believe, man. Always.

Pens overcame adversity repeatedly this year. Gonchar goes down. Whitney wasn't in. Slump. Six points out of the playoffs. Down 0-2 TWICE - only team to have ever done that.

This series was never about Marian Hossa, but his sad tale is the Red Wing Cherry on top of this win. I didn't even try to go to bed until 2:30. And then I woke up at 5 and tried to force myself to fall back asleep. Didn't happen.

Re: Pens Win.

At least Crosby got laid out, that was nice to see. Congrats to the Pens, but Detroit will ALWAYS be Hockeytown.

Re: Pens Win.

It was a great Stanley Cup, with a tremendous final game. What saves!! I have stated that I no longer watch the NBA, even though I am a long time basketball fan (but I watch as much of March Madness as I can). I still watch the NHL, and hockey is such a thrilling sport since it is played at high speed, and those guys are amazing as to their puck control. Congratulations to both teams for a great final. Pittsburgh is unbelievable coming back like that. Many people had given up on them, and everyone is a believer now.

"Hockeytown" couldn't even sell out Stanley Cup playoff games. "Hockeytown" succumbed, several times in Game 7 of the SCF, to "Fleury! Fleury!" and "Geno! Geno!" and "Let's Go Pens! Let's Go Pens!" chants. "Hockeytown" booed every time one of their players was touched. "Hockeytown" booed the Stanley Cup.

But go on consoling yourself by clinging to a name the fans can't back up. Pittsburgh is currently known as "City of Champions." I'll take that over whatever nicknames Detroit's got these days.

It was a Detroit power play. Pittsburgh might have had the puck on the Detroit side for a minute and a half, tops.

Throughout the 3rd period I was thinking that the criticism would have been heavy for packing it in too much, if Detroit had tied the game and gone on to win. It looked like Detroit would have been a 1/10 favorite if the game had ever reached 2-2.

Regardless, awesome win. I think the three days between games 6 and 7 really benefitted Pittsburgh. Once you get three days between games it negates some of the automatic back and forth rotation of the home team winning. By the same token, Detroit had an opportunity in game 6, which was also a 3 day separation. Once they didn't take advantage of that, the final game was not as lopsided as it appeared, based on the 5-0 game. I thought the -180 money line on the Red Wings was too high.

Gad, hard to believe it's been 17 years for the Pens. I remember sitting in the old and long gone Little Caesar's casino in Las Vegas, rooting in my wager of Pittsburgh over the Blackhawks in the final game, a very high scoring win.

That one was 6-5, yeah. In 1991 it was 8-0. They definitely covered the spread in that one. I was born in 1978, and was a bit more of a Pirates fan in the 80s and 90s, but I remember watching Lemieux and Jagr and cheering them on, even if I wasn't quite as nuts for the Pens as I have been since a few years after they won the Cup back to back.

Re: Pens Win.

I'm not really a hockey guy. But I'm a huge fan of pitt. (being born there and all...) My crazy work schedule didn't leave me much time to watch the rest of the series or playoffs. Luckily, I caught the final...... and I'm so happy I did. Best hockey game I've ever seen. It was better than the Mighty Ducks movies I loved as a kid!!!!!

The first goal was so sweet.

And seriously........ how they held on that long without letting detroit score was freaking amazing and nervewracking. And it really wasn't over until the buzzer rang. Too bad in the middle of texas you don't find hockey fans or pitt. fans often, so I have to be satisfied with a quiet happiness.

BTW, I'm not so familiar with hockey, so maybe I'm just out of touch..... but was detroits booing during the awards ceremony acceptable in hockey? ....... seemed REALLY unsportsmanlike to me...............

Re: Pens Win.

Being from CO I really don't care who wins so long as it isn't the RW or New Jersey (toss up with the wild). I was going pens all the way. That being said it was a good final series.

Re: Pens Win.

My Daughter and her friends went to the South Side of the city yesterday. They just happened to be in the same place where the Penguins were having a post game get together.

She got to meet Max Talbot and see about half of the boys & the CUP within 24 hours of the game.

Here she is with Talbot. (note the clean shave)

She was on the local news as well. Timing is everything!

They say they were booing the commissioner, not the Cup, but I still think it's in poor taste. Half of Detroit seems to think the commissioner has been out to screw Detroit all year or something. It's silly talk.

I saw that, too, on the news. So cool that they'd just be hanging out at a restaurant, bring it out, let people touch it, etc. Wow.

No kidding... Crosby has always been a class act who let his game (and hoisting of Lord Stanley's cup) do the talking.
Now if Ovechkin got laid out... lol

Rise above the trolls, dude. Detroit has been a great hockey city in good times and bad.... the fans are just frustrated this year... half of them worked making cars after all... and Pitt is hogging all the trophies. Selfish jerks.

Thats because half of "hockeytown" wings fans were also once detroit auto makers... untill recently. Not to mention the fans that ussually come from Chicago had their own team to cheer for....a welcome change.
They still love and respect the game... but times are tough all over, esspecially down around there...
