For those with hybrids how do you hit them off the tee? Do you setup like a normal driver shot or setup a an iron shot with the ball back in your stance?

Do you hit it up like a driver or down/compress like a fairway/rough shot?

I like to use my 5 and 7 hybrids for par threes but want to see how others hit them.

thanks

I set it up just like the equivalent iron it replaced. I have a 2H and 3H and play them both off my left heel and swing them like I would the equivalent iron. Try and take a small divot right in front of the ball.

Hybrids are made to play / swing like irons so that's how I play them. Same place in stance, same swing, and same "divot" (not really a divot, I usually scrape the grass off down to bare dirt but do not dig in)

I only have a 19* hybrid but will hit it off the tee when needed. For me, there are two scenarios I will use it off the tee. One, a short hole with little trouble that is pretty wide open. For this shot I am more concerned about position rather than distance. Two, a tight, short hole. Here I don't want to lose a ball or end up in the deep stuff.

For #1 I will set up more like a long iron and grip and rip. I may even tee the ball a little higher than normal so I can catch it on the upswing. I know my chances of being in the fairway are good and there is no trouble so I swing away. If I hit my spot, great, if not, I still have a wedge or short iron, probably from the fairway. Yes, I could hit driver, but hitting the hybrid eliminates most of the risk. Plus, if a hole is under 340, I would rather be sitting between 90 and 125 in a good spot with a good angle to attack, than 50 or 60 form the rough hitting over the bunker.

For #2 I will play the ball about the middle of my stance and hit more of a knockdown punch shot. This gives me a little more control. I will lose some distance, but the hole is short so I will still only be an 8-iron on down to the green. My only concern is to be somewhere in the fairway and not lost or OB or behind the tree guarding the green on the left.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I'll play it up in my stance and pick it clean if I wanna hit a higher ball.

Back in my stance and take a small divot if I want a lower ball flight with more roll out.

Exactly like a long iron. Tee'd just a bit higher than a perfect fairway lie and struck with a bit of a descending blow.
