Has anyone here used/heard of/had success with any of Brian Manzella's instructional videos. I have heard a couple of good things about "Confessions of a Former Flipper" and was looking for a little more feedback. Anyone used it or any of his stuff?

I've seen one of his commercial videos. To be honest, it wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. It just was. The info seemed solid, but the teaching style just didn't seem to ring a bell with me. That happens.

He has a lot of stuff on youtube. Before you go paying for something, I would take a look at some of his youtube stuff and see how it works for you.

Agreed. His style is sort of annoying. He's a sensationalist making the golf swing more complex than it is I think.

I saw some of his youtube stuff. It was almost like he was just talking about how to make whatever move he was teaching, but he wasn't providing actual instruction. I don't know if that is how all his stuff is, or if it was this way because you didn't buy anything. Maybe his purchased material has more substance, I don't know.

Some of his on-line videos were useful to me.

His teaching style may be a bit random in the free videos, but it connected for me. Visually I found some very useful things in there.

Now that you mention I watched a few of his videos and I have found them really good. He explains in detail a lot of subtle points on the swing spending 10-15 minutes on pivot/plane etc. I would be surprised to find better instructional videos on youtube for free which include so much information.

His teaching style seems to be to try to replicate all the swing thoughts he hears about and evaluate them. This is probably better that having a one track mind about things.

As for his personality he seems upbeat. I don't think he is joking around and if he is they are not the tumbleweed variety,

His videos on youtube probably don't work well for beginners who might prefer one swing thought at a time.

So, you're thinking about 20 different things? My goal is always to be thinking about nothing when I swing. I don't know if I follow you...

I'm talking about how the videos entail many fairly complex tips which requires the viewer to evaluate them quickly.

How many of those tips I try to bring to the range or course at a time is a different matter.

I used to take lessons from Brian and have seen most of his videos. I've also been fortunate enough to get lessons from several other highly regarded (top 50) teaching pros. I found Brian to be the most effective teacher I encountered. In fact, Brian made a point to teach me how to fix myself, so I would only need to go to him when I wanted another pair of eyes. His methods made me a former student, because he taught me enough that I can diagnose what's going on and then solve the problem.

His Confessions of a Former Flipper video is terrific. I also think many would benefit from his Never Slice Again.

Yeah, it just sounds like a jumbled, unorganized mess to me.

The idea should be to abstract and simplify things. The golf swing isn't so complex. And so much of it focuses on the downswing which is really a reaction to everything you've set up as you let it go. He's so choppy in his delivery and sounds like he's making things up as he goes along. He never just says "SWING!" I have a theroy that if explaining something takes longer than it takes to physically do it, you're making it too complex, lol. Everyone has different methods of learning I suppose.

      I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

      If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
