I got a chance to review and test the TaylorMade Penta TP ball this week. All I can say is if you like a premium ball, this is one you have to try. It isn't gong to be generally available until November, but I love this ball. It seems to be right for every part of the game... driver, irons, chipping and putting. I shot my lowest 9 holes ever (3 under par 33) and my low 18 of the season (76) while testing this ball. This from one who does not have an exceptionally high swing speed (90-95), or a very low handicap. This ball has excellent feel and performance.... I can't ask for more.

It's definitely going to be worth a look when you get a chance to use it, especially if you currently use or want to try a premium ball.

Definitely, and in my opinion out performs them both. It seems to have the best features of both balls. This seems to be the opinion of all of the tester reviews I've read.

Any chance you could give me a dozen?

I only got a 5 pack for the test so no, I haven't even got a dozen to give myself. If I did have an extra dozen, I'd still keep them.... I'm a selfish cuss.

If you shot 3 under on the front than you shot 7 over on the back. So was it the ball that caused you to shoot 7 over on that back? My point is you certainly had an awesome round but I don't think the ball was that much of a factor.

That 7 over is more typical of my normal game, and that problem lies between my ears, not in the ball. I was 3 under par through 11 holes when my brain died under the pressure and I just started making poor swings. The Penta still performed remarkably well when I made a good swing, better than any ball I've used in recent years, and that includes B330, Pro V1, Nike Tour, etc.

The point of this thread is that this ball performed in every area of my game, not just off the tee, or just in the short game. So many premium balls seem be aimed at a specific part of your game, while the consensus among the testers so far is that the Penta TP excels at every type of shot. Low spin and great length off the driver, great checking power with the irons and wedges, great response and feel in chipping, and a soft, velvety touch with the putter. I know that I sound like some kind of smarmy salesman, but that is just my reaction to playing the TM Penta TP.

Probably not... I know that it's a 5 piece ball thus the name Penta. Here's a photo of one.... undamaged.

    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
