I blade with forged blades for the first time today and have never hit better, the feedback was amazing and I just couldn't miss. Everyone always says "oooh blades those are hard to play"

Not always true, helped me alot so far, cant wait to get out there again.

I can understand high handicappers and all, but the ball you get airborne and long, 190ish for my 6 iron

Blades are fine when your swing is on, but on days when your swing is a little off you will wish you may wish that you had your CBs back.
You can preach about blades all you want, but you cant deny the fact that the majority of tour pros nowdays are playing cavity-backs. If blades are so much better, why are all these pros playing CBs?
Im glad you like your blades and I hope you have continued success with them, but there is a difference in forgivness from blades to CBs.

1) golf isn't about the length you get on a particular club.
2) one session with a new set of blades isn't enough to tell you much of anything. Same with a newly acquired driver, or putter ......
3) post again in a month or two and tell us how it's going

I play the Mizuno MP33 blades for about 4 years now playing Pw - 6 irons. I play at least once a week and sometimes twice and find hitting blades easier that most people think. I might add some cavity irons to replace my longer irons but currently I have a hybrid 24 degree that is comparable to a 4 iron that I can make up the difference for in between shots.

I agree why not blades, but again, I hit partial drivers into 210 yard par 3's, so continues the debate blades vs cavity irons.

My only thought is try them just for fun and consider a combo blade and cavity iron set.

PW - 7 iron blades
6 - 3 or 4 iron cavity irons or hybrids

I love the feel of blades.

I've got a old set of Sam Snead blades. They feel great but if you hit it poorly it goes nowhere. For better ball-strikers I'd reccomend blades.

Most pro's do use blades.

Only time they use CB's is for they're 3 or 2 irons.

Atleast four of the current worlds top ten are using cavity backs; Westwood, Stenson, Furyk and harrington, I know casey has played with the Nike cavitys instead of blades in a few tournaments, thats the worlds best ten players, and some use cavity backs.

Blades vs. Cavity Back...its like listening to two AC/DC fans argue whether Bon Scott or Brian Johnson was better. They are just different.

I have played both, I currently hit the Mizuno MP-33 blades 2-PW. Pointing to the idea that pro's are using CB irons I dont think makes for a good argument.

If you prefer to hit blades, and you think you hit them better, then you do. I dont believe there is that much difference in performance anyways. A 30 handicapper could hit a persimmon driver and some 1950 model blades and he is still going to shoot 100.

I like the way Elk put it, he said he prefers his clubs to be "plain vanilla" and let his swing do the talking.

I play blades but would consider playing mp30's in a Dynamic Gold shafts.

Actually........

"The pros" play a whole range of clubs. Some play game improvement cavity backs with offset. Some play cavity backs Some play a combination of "blades" and cavity backs. Some play what many like to call "blades" but aren't blades at all, strictly speaking. There is no such thing as clubs that "the pros" play.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Old thread, but still interesting....I'm a pretty high handicap but use MP-14s (2-SW) because I want to know exactly where my mis-hits are on the club face. When I hit my nephew's or a friend's CBs it's very apparent that they are muted but forgiving.

I think you guys are forgetting about muscle backs. Those are in between cavity and blades and I'm willing to bet those who do not play blades on the tour play muscle backs, with only a small few playing cavity backs.

Best 9 holes: 35 (Trilogy at Redmond Ridge, 3163y, Par 35/70, 70.0/131)
Best 18: [b]77[b] (Palm Valley CC, 6545y, 71.4/126)
Notable career achievement: I have NEVER four-putt.

mickelson doesn't play a full blade. it's like an X muscle back/blade.

i forget what they are called. but look at the titleist AP2 irons, they are half muscle back half blade.

there are plenty of combinations and i really don't understand the difference between all of them. I've never hit blades just muscle backs and cavity

just get a blade with permiter weighting/some cavity. I just played a round with the new ap2s, OMG, they feel amazing and I was sticking greens. I will never get an iron thats not forged again in my life, lol.
