The FBI is looking into his doctor who has connections to steroids, and "blood spinning," a controversial therapy used to heal tissue.

Here are some articles/videos.

The Blood thing seems bogus and safe (i'm not i doctor, i just play one on a golf forum) and not related to PEDs, but his doctor was found with steroids at the Canada/US border. Not direct implications to Tiger, but the story is still young...

The FBI is looking into his doctor who has connections to steroids, and "blood spinning," a controversial therapy used to heal tissue.

The only use of the word "steroid" in the article is this:

Source: AP Article "All these athletes come see me in Canada 'cause I fix them, and I think people just assume that I'm giving them stuff," he told the newspaper. "They don't have to come to me to get HGH and steroids. You can walk into your local gym in New York and get HGH."

The word doesn't even appear in the second article. Furthermore, "blood spinning" or platelet rich plasma therapy is used hundreds of thousands of times per year and the only thing "controversial" about it is whether or not it works. Some say it may just be placebo effect, others think it actually works. But it's neither illegal nor "performance enhancing." It's used by some to recover from injury or surgery.

No, he wasn't. "The New York Times reported on its Web site Monday night that Dr. Anthony Galea was found with human growth hormone and Actovegin, a drug extracted from calf's blood, in his bag at the U.S.-Canada border in late September. He was arrested Oct. 15 in Toronto by Canadian police."

C'mon, jamo. You owe it to your fellow forum buddies to not sensationalize or misrepresent things.

The articles dont say really anything about steroids, you have to watch the video on the ESPN article.

No... I watched the video. "Steroid" came up

one time in the introduction before the reporter even got to Tiger Woods. He was referring to "physicians" in our "steroid age." That's it, and he never said the word again. C'mon.

C'mon iacas, no one is saying that Tiger has done PEDs. But you have to admit this is by far the worst possible time that this kind of news can come out. I'm not the one jumping to conclusions but everyone here knows that there are people that will accuse him for doing steroids. Even if it was almost impossible, Tiger really should have checked that the guy that's your doctor isn't selling HGH and other such things to athletes. And if you say this isn't news, turn on ESPN and watch shows like Jim Rome is Burning, Around the Horn, and Pardon the Interruption. One of the top stories on each of these.

Tiger is like GW Bush these days - he is going to be linked to everything under the sun, even if the connection is tenuous or doesn't exist at all.

People are probably more willing to dig around now than they were a couple months ago on this topic. But i really hope, that they wont turn up with anything (serious) and that the pros are honest on this matter.

The consequences for the sport of golf would be pretty disasterous and would destroy all the efforts done in the past to promote its values and to open up the sport to a broader public.

I didn't say anything about that.I've just said the doctor isn't linked to steroids.

But you have to admit this is by far the worst possible time that this kind of news can come out.

This story goes back to October, actually. Why it's made news just recently I don't know. It's literally being recycled since October.

Even if it was almost impossible, Tiger really should have checked that the guy that's your doctor isn't selling HGH and other such things to athletes.

Yes, because doctors helping others to break the law are always quick to admit to it...??

And if you say this isn't news, turn on ESPN and watch shows like Jim Rome is Burning, Around the Horn, and Pardon the Interruption.

I didn't say it wasn't news (that's the second time you've said I said something I didn't). WHY it's news when it occurred in October I don't know, but I never said it wasn't news.

I don't really mind about his private life. It's all about him and his family.

But I will not accept the fact all his game was build with the help of medecine.
I like to know Tiger is the best on the course, not his doctors...

OK, your right.

But he is being linked to HGH which is pretty much the same thing, but just not tested for because it cannot be detected in a piss test.

it is essentially, until proven otherwise, a cheap shot at tiger because currently he seems to be a target so big that it is tough to miss. for the media, until another headline comes up around the corner, they will milk the tigergate till it is bone dry. all they need to do is to plant the seed of doubt and the mass will feed on it for days.

i am sure if you put a murderer on trial and add some phony evidence that he might have run a red light on route to the murder that nobody will question if that is indeed the case...it doesn't matter they figure. chances are they figure.

what does "link" suppose to mean? oh i got it: a conviction of guilt in the court of public opinion.

Like everyone else, I would be surprised if Woods used PEDs. My instinct is to doubt it, but I have learned that I cannot tell if anyone uses PEDs just by watching them (well, possibly excepting Bonds).

But if the same story were posted about a doctor and track athletes or baseball players, I bet most people would think there could well be something to it and would be suspicious of the doctor's activities: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=4746860 :

"Galea has a client list that includes former Canadian Olympic gold medal-winning sprinter Donovan Bailey and hurdler Mark McKoy, as well as other prominent American professional athletes. The doctor has in the past acknowledged personally using HGH himself and in the treatment of some patients, though not with any athletes."

The history of virtually all pro athletes in this area has been to deny they did anything before being caught. See the whole Balco mess. Moreover, we would be drawn to a story about any doctor who attended to the dominant player in any sport.

So, I don't think following this story is piling on Woods. It's a legitimate news item. What remains to be seen is whether any solid evidence develops.

Until PEDs can somehow improve accuracy, shotmaking ability, and course mmgt, they are almost worthless in golf IMO.

If he used HGH for his recovery from knee surgery then more power to him. When you have major surgery like that you should be allowed to use ALL drugs to help get you right again. If he used it to bulk up up and gain an advantage then he has a problem.Pitchers use HGH while recovering from Tommy John surgery all the time so lets not hang him for this.

It's 99% likely the doctor in question didn't do anything for him other than PRP. Let's not jump to even more conclusions, despite the recent history of even the worst presumptions coming true.

Why is this even a 'story'? Tiger went to him for a few sessions when he was injured. What's the big deal?

Knowing someone that's engaged in illegal activity does not implicate you in that criminal activity by default.

A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

Guilty by association. If your best friend was selling drugs without you knowing, what do you think the first thing people would think about you?

And don't worry iacas, I'm not saying you said any of that, I'm referring more to people in general. And I guess since it happened in October he's being sentenced around now and now just happens to be a great time to try and smear more mud on Tiger's image. Once again, not saying Tiger has any connections to this, but he's gotta be thinking "WHY NOW!!!???".

In America you are guilty until proven innocent, oh except in Tiger's case. I must admit, lots of people are still holding Tiger to the pre disaster standards. This guy is turning out to be much worst than any of us could imagine and if you show that kind of disrespect to your family, meaning cheating with any girl who will give it to you, you are capable of worse. Unfortunately where there is smoke there often is fire and this link seems a little suspicious. This guy has already proved that the people that should have came first in his life meant little in comparison to his ego.

    • I'll be honest, the only reason the 2 iron was in my bag is because I tend to hit the ball into the tree's fairly often. And I was using it to help me keep the ball very low to get out of the tree's while avoiding getting much loft to hit branches. I guess I can drop the 3H as well. Would it be wise to give a higher loft fairway wood a try as well, something like a 26 degree? I believe there is only one golf shop where I live that has a golf simulator and trainer. I see they offer free fitting with a purchase from the fitter. I'll have to check how much they charge without a purchase, I've read a few stories about fitters on this forum that just wanted to sell the person the most expensive clubs and that kind of deters me a bit. They do offer lessons as well. I'll give them a call and ask them a bit more about these services. Thank you!

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.
