How long to get used to new set of clubs

Just switched to a new set of clubs but cannot ripe the benefit of the clubs yet. Just wonder for the folks out here how long did it take you to be really effective and good with your new set of clubs 1 round, 2 rounds, 3, etc...

To get really comfortable, and have absolute trust in my irons, it usually takes about 3 months of play. New irons are great on the range, from a perfect lie, and the first few rounds are great,(honeymoon period) then a few glitches may work their way in, then the process of learning exactly what to expect from the less than perfect lies on the course. After about 3 months, I figure I've seen it all, uphill, downhill, sidehill lies, rough, hardpan, pinestraw, etc., and I know what to expect from them all.

Well it depends on how much you practice with them.
When I got my FP's it took me a month or so to get used to the yardages fully.

I put a new set of irons in play mid-season and I play nearly everyday and it took me a couple of months to really get use to them. I doubt your going to adjust in just a couple of rounds.

I got new clubs at the end of last year and it took me about 10-15 rounds and several range sessions to get really comfortable with them. I don't get to play that much so that was spread out over about 9-10 months, including a winter when I don't play at all. That hindered me some since I basically had to start over with them in the spring.

I think he meant to switch from a set you know to one you don't - I can switch between my own sets fairly seemlessly - now that I know them all.

WRT the OP's criteria, "how long did it take you to be really effective and good with your new set of clubs?"

That is purely subjective. My version of "really effective and good" might have a crappier appearance to the casual observer than yours does.

I believe it will take the average golfer that plays once a week A FULL SEASON to truly dial-in a new set of irons.

I would say a couple of practice rounds with the range finder to dial the yardages, then a couple more to work out how much draw or fade the different face angles can give, so probably a month, but for me in Dublin this a great time to change as "real" golf doesn't start up again until March. That is why I am changing my AP1s with DG high launch shafts to AP2s with Rifle 5.0 this week. That said will play the "new"(secondhand) irons in the comp Sunday.

Yep----Unless the clubs are radically strange, huge offset, shaft flex out of my comfortable range a round or two will do it. I switch pretty easy. Jack of all trades master of none

LOL on club ho's. One of my regular 4-some guys purchased 3 lob wedges in June of last year...every week he brought a differnt one....he then showed up in July with a 50 degree persimon hybred!!! LOL a freakin chipping wood!!! We were damn near in tears. it didn't help him. He is an 8 but his chipping still blows!!! He has about 10 putters that he rotates through and is always adding on to his inventory...you walk into our local golf shop with and you might as well bring the prsident himself!!! he is a sale waiting to happen! the best part of this...his short game is terrible and he has putting chipping green built into his pool and deck area behind his house!!!!

That is a club ho!!!

I think it depends on how different the new clubs are from your old ones.

I switched from Mizuno MP-32 to MP-52 last year. There wasn't a huge difference and I was used to the 52's in about a week or two.

I think the time to adjust would be longer if you were switching from something like an oversized game improvement iron to a thinner muscle back.

I say it took me about a month of playing and practicing regularly to get adjusted when i switched to the AP2 irons. I used to play titliest 695cb irons before the AP2. The 695's are lofted stronger and had DG shafts in them. The DG shafts felt heavier to me than the rifle shafts even though they're about the same weight. The ball flight between the two clubs were completley different from my swing and my carry distances got all screwed up because of the weaker lofts on the AP2. I also spun the 695's much more with the mid and short irons, so that was also an adjustment.

Irons and putters are the only clubs i would need some time to adjust, with all the other clubs its just grip and rip for me.

It honestly doesn't take that long for me, but I usually look for clubs with a similar feel to what I'm currently using. This last time I switched back to steel from graphite shafts, so it was more of an adjustment than I usually experience, but then too, it was still only a few rounds until I was playing to the same level as before. Maybe I'm just not a precise enough ball striker for it to matter as much to me as it does to some of you.

yep, it takes me awhile to get used to new irons, and thats why ive used the same model since 2003, lol. before that i used Titleist DCI 962's for 11 straight years...change is bad, mmkay? hehe

For me, usually a few months. If I get a few rounds in with really windy conditions, I start to get a good feel for a new set of irons. Much shorter learning curve for woods.

I think this is the best response. My adjustment time except for fairway woods and wedges is minimal. One practices session on playing round. Woods wedges because there is more variation with soles in woods and bounce etc seem to take a bit longer. Also I see more variation in trajectory in those clubs brand to brand.
