I always wanted to try the Adams you mentioned when I was in the market... but I ended up e-baying the Sonartec in my sig, and it is the sweetest 3-wood I have had the pleasure of playing. It is a deadly straight club for finding the fairway and the head is on the smaller side. Not sure if they are still available, but most likely you can find one someplace if you look around.

Also, Callaway Pre-owned probably has some of those immensely popular Steelheads that many people still play today... they were a classic and are still one of the best in my opinion.
My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

Give the Titleist 909F3 a try. I've found it to be a great 3-wood off the tee.

Since I like Mizuno drivers I looked for a recent 3, and 5 wood design with a shaft I'm familiar with. I found some Mizuno F-60 fairway woods on eBay with the UST ProForce V2 shafts. I bid and won them and I am happy playing them. My suggestion would be try the demo bin at Golfsmith or Edwin Watts or a large store near you. Then look on eBay for the clubhead you like with a shaft you are familiar with. That is a cost effective way to get what you need. IMHO

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

Well that means you may find the heads you want and then get the shafts you want fitted later. Heck, you can buy the shafts you want on eBay. They aren't left or right handed. You still want to find the heads at the lowest prices possible. eBay allows you to bid and win the items you want at prices you can afford. That is it's beauty, but I will allow left handed clubs and heads aren't the most plentiful. Good Luck.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

I can rep for the Taylormade high launch burners. Very easy to hit off of the deck. I just picked up some Titleist 906F2's but I can't try them out till Christmas. I noticed a majority of the Titleist tour players were still playing this wood, even though the 909F series have been out for a while, figured there must be something good about them.

I just reshafted my old Cleveland Launcher with a V2 shaft and it made a big difference. Alot straighter and more length while still maintaining the look and feel of the smaller head.

Too bad Sonartec went out of business. They had some great looking clubs. A lot of people (myself included) are afraid to venture away from the big names and that is probably why they went under. I had a buddy who relied on his Sonartec 3-wood pretty much on every tee shot and hit the thing like 270. I used to laugh at the thing but then I tried it and it was real solid. The Titleist fairway woods still have small heads. I have a 980F from a few years back and I have seen the newer F3 and the head looks pretty small too.

I have to second this vote. The Nike DyMo fairway woods are exceptionally easy to hit and feel great. And with the current pricetag of $100 or less you cannot go wrong

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
