ok long story short, I am addcited to buying golf quipment
I do not hoard old stuff though....i buy something new and the old is SOLD
I do this for multiple reasons:

1. my wife would kill me if I had a basement full of clubs
2. it helps fund the new gear'
3. it forces me to get used to the new stuff, knowing i cant go back to the old gear

ok...so last year I built a pretty stellar bag, as follows:

Titleist 907 D2 Driver
Mizuno F-50 4w (dont laugh, this thing is crazy accurate)
SC Newport Putter
Mizuno MP-57's
Callaway X-Tour Forged Wedgies
Mizuno Aerolite III Bag

thought it would be a great setup for this year....I was wrong
i have started to build a NEW bag this year

2 clubs that will NEVER leave me, the Mizuno 4w and the SC putter

see my sig for what I am playing so far this year

for some stupid a$$ reason, I am finding the need for a new driver now
absoluetly nothing wrong w the 907, but I like to try different gear out
i just dont know what to get
I am not brand loyal, but i REALLY like Nike irons....so much i am thinking about a Nike driver
I will however, NOT spend $400+ on a driver...i just wont
I would much rather pick up an older one, in good shape and put a great shaft in it and play that

so I have narrowed it down to the following:

Nike SQ Tour-$85 in GREAT shape-it will also get a GD AUra RED Shaftm which will cost me $80
Nike SQ 5000-$135 and it will also need the same shaft as above
Nike Dymo (the round one)-$200 ......adding the shaft will put me over budget......
Nike VR Tour-$250 (if i can get it for this...will probably be more)

as you can see....there is a mix of old to new in there...and YES all Nike
I highly doubt i will get the VR tour, as it is already is $210 + $30 to ship..but we will see
I want to keep it around the $250 mark TOPPS, as i can sell my 907 for $150 to a buddy

dont know why all Nike, but hey it is what it is
and im not one to "match" my gear.....although it may look like it, its not intentional

i am also open to suggestions on something like a PING...no TM or Cleveland though.....

so...am i nutz?? hahah!

i think i am.......or i have ADD...for real

won't lie...sounds a bit nuts. if you're hitting things well that're in your bag now and are a 4...ever think there's a reason or possibility to lower your handicap if you just stayed with the clubs you had for once? if your goal is to get better...i'd suggest keeping your clubs, if your goal is to be 'that guy' who has the newest and greatest for the simple feeding of a man's addiction...buy on my brother...buy on.

In my Titleist 2014 9.5" Staff bag:

see thats the the thing though...I dont HAVE to have the newest and BEST of the BEST....just like to try different clubs

my irons are from 05 or 06 driver from 07, 4w from like 04 or 05 too....... the switch hasnt hurt me to bad, i still play well with most clubs but i hear you thats why i am trying to do this switch now, BEFORE the year starts...then i can get "used" to it all

Wow... I'm impressed. I just periodically look at eBay and I'm starting to collect 6-irons. Besides the one from my set and my previous set, I have an extra MP-57, an MP-29, and an MP-33 on the way.

I think the problem you have is you might be getting rid of a club for one that performs worse. But, so long as you're keeping with clubs that work for you, and you don't upset the wife too much, I don't see the problem.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I like getting new equipment, though i am probably in denial as to how i justify it. I never buy actual brand new clubs, i just stalk eBay until i find something going for a low price, and i bid last minute. Furthermore, i only would buy using this method if i knew i could relist if i didn't like, and make my money back. The only club i purchased when brand new in my signature is my 51* Mizuno wedge which was £40 in a sale, and i had a gap that needed filling.
For example, i just bought an Adams hybrid from ebay having stalked all 'newly listed' for the past 2 weeks. Its a Pro Gold, and for under £50 shipped. :)
What I Play:
Wilson Mini Stand Bag | PING G10, 10.5°, Proforce V2 HL S | PING G5, 15°, 18°, Aldila NV 75 S | PING G5, 19°, Aldila VS Proto By You 80 S
Mizuno MX200 4-PW S | Ping Tour W 50/12 X | Ping Tour W 58/TS X | A selection of putters, all 35.5 inches.

You definitely have a problem,,, but you aren't nuts...

You can get the Dymo for $150 at TGW... free shipping this week to...

My problem is I get some new clubs each year, but I don't get rid of any of the old.... I have a stable of past drivers, older wedges, putters and bags that are occupying a portion of my garage.

I'm not sure you'll like that SQ tour any more than your 907D2. I like buying new golf stuff as much as anyone but I won't get any new equipment unless I'm sure it's what I want to buy and I'm sure it will be better than what I currently have. I wouldn't sell off your D2 before you know you hit the Nike better.

I too have an equipment addiction! Or at least for the moment I do, I think it has more to do with the occasional spending sprees I go on in my manic phases and the fact that for the second Spring in a row, I'm obsessed with golf!

Good luck, whatever club you choose, I hope it works out for you.

i'm sure you could find your way to that rehab place tiger was at...'dr. drew...i....*huge sigh*....I'm addicted to golf clubs...' drew says, 'that's step one, do you feel a little better?'

so...am i nutz??

I hope you're not nuts because that would diagnose a lot of us. I can't make it season to season without chaning equipment. Its truly an addiction but there are worse things to get into. The biggest problem is not getting rid of the old stuff. I keep telling my wife I keep them for visitors. I could host a 4-some. Its getting a little ridiculous.

Golf can be anything to anyone, like cars. Some people like to buy a mid-size car, drive it 250,000 - 300,000 miles and turn aorund and do it again. Others get a new car every year or two. Neither is right or wrong. ITs just up to your personality. I find a ton of enjoyment from equipment shopping and just getting more knowledgable about equipment. Go enjoy it without guilt.

not an odd question

I dont and have no way to try it I am purely picking a shaft that has similar specs to the one I am using now I know it wont perform EXACTLY the same, but im happy w similar i know what i need the shaft to do, so I am basing it off what specs the manufacturer has on their website i know it sounds retarded, but its the only option I have I dont want to spend $400 + ona driver and get "fitted"...dont have the time or resources for that the shafts i am considering are in the $65-100 range so if i make a mistake then im still only in the shaft im confident this will be a good head to try.......well I FELL CONFIDENT in it, but time will only tell after i get a chance to demo it all

    • after some years experimenting around, I've settled on a mixed bag of mostly Pat Simmons vintage Tiger Sharks (the ones with the blue enamal on back of the clubheads): 3 thru 9 iron, + 3 wedges (PW, sand, chipper). Those super heavy clubheads really help me get my swing down and thru the ball. Also I carry an old Taylor 18-degree rescue club, 17-degree and 14 degree ImagineGolf metalwoods, and the famous Pat Simmons "alien" 1-iron. Finally a real brick-on-a-stick, the big-headed Bettinardi Ben Hogan model putter which is excellent for taking the break out of short putts and getting the ball hole high on long ones. Wait....is that 15 clubs? Oh well....
    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.
    • day 57. Technique practice in the net. Really trying to slow down.
    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
